Employment Litigation Associate Attorney (3-5 Years), Durham, North Carolina

About the opportunity
A well-regarded law firm is adding an Employment Litigation Associate in Durham. You'll work directly with partners defending employers of all sizes in state and federal court, before government agencies, and in arbitration. You'll take depositions, handle motions, and work with clients early, with responsibility based on what you show rather than how long you've been there. You don't need prior employment litigation experience; a strong business litigation background carries over well, and the firm will support your growth in employment law. Candidates from outside the Triangle with firm plans to relocate are welcome.

What you'll do

  • Defend employers against discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and other workplace claims
  • Litigate wage and hour disputes under federal and state wage laws
  • Handle restrictive covenant, confidentiality, trade secret, and duty-of-loyalty disputes
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery
  • Take and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts
  • Manage discovery from collection through production, including work with e-discovery vendors
  • Represent employers in agency investigations, audits, inspections, and unemployment matters
  • Represent clients in arbitration
  • Research legal issues and write clear analysis and client updates
  • Advise clients on strategy, risk, and resolution options, including mediation and settlement

What you bring

  • A J.D. from an accredited law school with excellent academic credentials
  • 3-5 years of litigation experience with strong fundamentals in pleadings, motions, discovery, and depositions
  • A license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, and North Carolina licensure within one year
  • Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills

 What's offered

  • Early case ownership, with first-chair opportunities as you're ready
  • Direct mentorship and growing responsibility
  • A collaborative, in-person culture with flexibility to work from home some days
  • Competitive compensation based on experience
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance, a retirement plan, paid time off and holidays, and support for continuing education

Salary commensurate with candidate experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
