Endoscopy Technician

SUMMARY:Under the direction of the RN, the endoscopy technician is responsible for assisting with the care and safety of the patient in the endoscopy suite.Other duties include assisting physician with endoscopy procedure and processing of endoscopy equipment.The endoscopy technician is responsible for performing a range of support activities that contribute to the overall efficiency of the perioperative, endoscopy and CSD areas.Work involves inventorying, disassembling, cleaning, high level disinfection, sterilization, reassembling, and maintaining operating room and endoscopy instrumentation/equipment.The endoscopy technician performs in between case cleaning and terminal cleaning.Brown University Health employees are expected to successfully role model the organization's values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence as these values guide our everyday actions with patients, customers and one another.RESPONSIBILITIES:Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.Commits to recognize and respect cultural diversity for all customers (internal and external).Communicates effectively with internal and external customers with respect of differences in cultures, values, beliefs and ages, utilizing interpreters when needed.Assists physician with endoscopy procedureCleaning of endoscopes: High level disinfectionPerforms disinfection and sterilization of instrumentation in the central service departmentProcesses all instruments for the operating room according to manufucterer's recommendationsUpdates and maintains IFU's related to endoscopy/operating room equipment and instrumentationPerforms specimen handling in the endoscopy suitePerforms documentation and logs related to sterilization including temperature and humidity logs, eye wash log, and instrument/equipment repair logAssists with transporting and positioning of patientsPerforms other duties as assignedEDUCATION:High School Diploma or GEDCRCST preferred, BLS required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:1 - 5 years preferredAbility to assist physician in all endoscopic proceduresKnowledge of aseptic technique, infection control principles, sterilization techniques, equipment and supply processing, and operation of steam sterilizers*Knowledge of Spauling Classification*Knowledge of Universal Protocol*Knowledge of AORN Standards and Recommended Practices*Knowledge of AAMI Guidelines*Knowledge of ASGE Guidelines*Ability to prioritize equipment needs of the operating room/endoscopy suiteAbility to work in a fast-paced environmentAbility to exercise good judgement and is self-motivatedExcellent communication and organizational skills*on-the-job training will be provided to establish knowledge base

Pay Range:

$18.84-$27.48
