    Energy Efficiency Business Development Representative

    Contract Length: 1 yr with possible extension
    Location: Newark, NJ
    Work Setup: Hybrid (Minimum 3 days per week in the office plus field work)

    Join a leading energy company dedicated to helping commercial, industrial, and residential customers improve energy efficiency and sustainability. As an Energy Efficiency Business Development Representative, you will drive business development across the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) market, build strong customer relationships, support energy efficiency program delivery, and collaborate with internal teams to achieve program goals.

    Energy Efficiency Business Development Representative Responsibilities

    • Develop and manage a Commercial & Industrial (C&I) sales pipeline across the assigned New Jersey territory by prospecting, qualifying, and closing energy efficiency projects.
    • Manage opportunities through a defined multi-stage sales process using Salesforce and eTrac.
    • Identify residential energy efficiency opportunities in the field and refer customers to the appropriate residential program pathways.
    • Oversee the performance of contracted office and field vendors, ensuring quality service delivery, compliance with program requirements, and adherence to safety protocols.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Customer Care, Contracting, Procurement, Legal, Marketing, IT, and other stakeholders to deliver exceptional customer service and improve program performance.
    • Develop and maintain program processes, business controls, and compliance standards while identifying opportunities for process improvement and automation.
    • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure program goals, regulatory requirements, and business objectives are achieved. Prepare and present project and program status updates to customers and leadership.
    • Serve as a Client advocate by building relationships with community organizations, municipalities, and trade associations to increase awareness of Commercial & Industrial energy efficiency programs.
    • Gather Voice of the Customer feedback and market intelligence to support continuous program improvement.
    • Assist with special projects and additional business initiatives as assigned.
    • Foster an inclusive work environment by demonstrating respect for diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and ideas.

    Energy Efficiency Business Development Representative Qualifications

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field with 5+ years of experience in energy efficiency programs and business development; or 9+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
    • Experience in business development, customer relationship management, and managing vendor performance.
    • Experience working with Energy Efficiency or Electric Vehicle (EV) programs.
    • Proven ability to collaborate with and lead cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives.
    • Strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
    • Proficiency with CRM systems such as Salesforce.
    • Valid U.S. driver's license.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification.
    • MBA or other advanced degree.
    • Experience working with utility-sponsored energy efficiency programs.

    The Energy Efficiency Business Development Representative plays a key role in expanding participation in Commercial & Industrial energy efficiency programs while strengthening customer relationships and supporting successful program execution. This hybrid position offers the opportunity to work directly with customers, community partners, and internal stakeholders to deliver innovative energy solutions throughout New Jersey.
