Engineering Manager Design-Build / Modular Construction

Our client is a design-build company that takes projects from an initial concept through design, fabrication, and delivery of a fully built structure. The company specializes in steel-frame modular and shipping container structures across commercial, food & beverage, and industrial applications.

Our client is seeking an Engineering Manager / Professional Engineer who brings a practical, build-first mindset to engineering and design. The ideal candidate understands not only how a project should look on paper, but how it will actually be fabricated, assembled, and constructed in the real world.

This is not a purely theoretical design role. The strongest candidates will have hands-on experience working closely with fabrication, manufacturing, construction, or field teams and will be comfortable solving real-world engineering and production challenges as they arise.

What You'll Do

• Lead and manage the design team with a build-first approach, overseeing designs and plans from initial development through production and fabrication.
• Manage a design team that typically ranges from 4 10 team members, including both on-site and remote designers and architects.
• Establish and coordinate project priorities based on client requirements, production schedules, and delivery timelines.
• Participate in client meetings to understand project vision, scope, schedule, and technical requirements.
• Manage client communication throughout the design and engineering process, helping establish clear expectations and ensuring timely, effective communication.
• Partner closely with the production and warehouse teams to answer questions, clarify drawings and plans, and resolve issues that arise during fabrication.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with design, engineering, fabrication, production, and operations teams.
• Troubleshoot and resolve engineering and design challenges that arise during fabrication and construction.
• Incorporate Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles to ensure designs are practical, efficient, and production-ready.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of engineering and design experience.
• Experience within modular construction, manufacturing, steel fabrication, or design-build environments.
• Structural and MEP experience strongly preferred.
• Proven leadership experience with the ability to coordinate, prioritize, delegate, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong ability to create, review, and interpret detailed technical drawings.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment where engineering and design teams work closely with production and fabrication.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across client, office, shop, and field teams.
• Professional Engineer (PE) with the ability to stamp engineering plans across multiple disciplines and states.
• The company will assist with obtaining additional state licenses as needed.

Compensation & Position Details

• Full-time, salaried leadership position with benefits
• Monday Friday schedule, with occasional after-hours coordination as project needs require
