ENGINEERING INSPECTOR/STORMWATER

To perform inspections of city construction projects at various stages of construction and
repair; to ensure compliance with codes and standards; and to perform a variety of
administrative and technical tasks relative to the engineering inspections function.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES--Essential responsibilities
and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Perform inspections of city construction projects; ensure compliance by contractor with
plans, specifications and contract provisions for projects.
Work with city project engineer in reviewing construction progress and any deviations from
original plans; secure approval from in-house engineering staff prior to authorizing changes
for contractors.
Prepare monthly reports on inspections; draw field set of as-built plans.
Conduct inspections of construction performed by contractors in the right-of-way, utility lines
and oil and gas pipelines; inspect oil drilling rigs and corresponding sites to ensure
compliance with all city ordinances and regulations.
Coordinate and monitor various quality assurance tests performed at job site; collect
specimens including sod, concrete, water and other materials; send samples to laboratory
for testing.
Inspect underground construction for proper embodiment, alignment and grade; inspect
structures for proper size, space and elevation of steel; inspect pavement for proper
requirements.
Report and document any deviation and/or discrepancies in plans or profiles; ensure that
materials and equipment delivered to the site meet requirements and specifications; reject
unsatisfactory work which fails to meet city contract requirements.
Experience and Training Guidelines
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required
knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities
would be:
Experience:
One to two years of increasingly responsible experience in construction or
inspections or a closely related field.
Training:
Equivalent to an Associates degree from an accredited college with major course
work in engineering, building construction or a related field.
License or Certificate:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.
