About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Backend Engineering Manager to lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable, reliable, and secure backend systems. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with people management, architectural decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver high-quality products.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership: Own backend architecture, system design, technology selection, and engineering best practices.

• Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop backend engineers; conduct performance reviews and support career growth.

• Backend Development: Oversee the development of scalable APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.

• System Reliability: Ensure high availability, performance, scalability, security, and fault tolerance.

• Delivery & Execution: Manage sprint planning, technical roadmaps, prioritization, and timely delivery of engineering initiatives.

• Code Quality: Establish standards for code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, documentation, and maintainability.

• Infrastructure & DevOps: Collaborate on cloud infrastructure, deployment strategies, observability, monitoring, and incident management.

• Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Frontend, QA, DevOps, Security, and Business teams.

• Performance Optimization: Identify bottlenecks, improve database performance, and optimize API response times and resource utilization.

• Engineering Strategy: Drive technical debt reduction, process improvements, and long-term engineering scalability.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 8 12+ years of experience in backend software development.

• 2 4+ years of experience managing or leading engineering teams.

• Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages: Python, Java, Go, Node.js, or C#.

• Experience designing RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.

• Strong knowledge of databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, and Redis.

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation.

• Understanding of message brokers and event-driven systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or AWS SQS.

• Experience with system design, scalability, security, and performance optimization.

• Strong problem-solving, communication, stakeholder management, and people leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building products in SaaS, fintech, e-commerce, or high-growth technology environments.

• Knowledge of observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, or Datadog.

• Experience with high-traffic applications and distributed data systems.

• Familiarity with AI/ML service integrations or LLM-powered backend applications.

• Experience establishing engineering KPIs, hiring processes, and technical development roadmaps.
