    Engineering Manager, North America

    Reports into: Global Technical Director, AIO

    Job Description Summary:

    The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a North American engineering organization supporting Amphenol Industrial Operations (AIO) products and technologies. This position manages engineering resources located in Endicott, New York; Zhuhai, China; Nogales, Mexico; and remote locations.

    This role is responsible for all aspects of Core Product Engineering, New Product Development (NPD), Manufacturing Support, Sustaining Engineering, Cost Reduction and Technical Leadership. The Engineering Manager provides leadership for product design, product engineering, manufacturing engineering support, validation testing, engineering documentation, technology development, and strategic engineering initiatives.

    This position works closely with Product Management, Operations, Quality, Sales, Marketing, Sourcing, and Senior Leadership to ensure successful execution of business objectives and engineering priorities.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    Engineering Leadership

    • Lead and develop engineering teams or resources located in Endicott, Nogales, China, and remote locations.
    • Establish engineering goals, priorities, workload balance, and resource allocation to support business objectives.
    • Provide coaching, mentoring, performance management, and career development for engineering employees.
    • Create a culture of accountability, innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
    • Support succession planning and organizational development for the global engineering team.

    Core Product Engineering

    • Manage technical aspects of Core Products including sustaining engineering, lifecycle management, cost reduction, and product improvements.
    • Oversee engineering change management, product documentation accuracy, and product release packages.
    • Support operations, quality, sourcing, project managers, and manufacturing locations with strong technical and product knowledge.
    • Drive quality improvements, manufacturability improvements, productivity improvements, and cost reduction initiatives.

    New Product Development

    • Lead all technical aspects of new product development projects from concept through production launch.
    • Manage configuration, detailed design, tolerance analysis, FMEA, prototyping, pilot builds, validation, qualification, and production readiness.
    • Ensure products meet customer requirements, industry standards, cost targets, quality expectations, and schedule commitments.
    • Utilize Lean Product Development techniques to improve speed, learning, execution, and design quality.
    • Collaborate with Product Management and Sales to define product requirements and development priorities.

    Design, Documentation & Technical Review

    • Review and approve engineering documentation including BOMs, ECNs, drawings, specifications, test plans, qualification reports, FAIs, and product release documents.
    • Provide technical leadership in connector design, cable assemblies, contact systems, thermal performance, signal integrity, environmental sealing, materials, plating, injection molding, stamping, machining, and assembly processes.
    • Ensure engineering work complies with applicable standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
    • Drive technical problem-solving using Root Cause Analysis, A3s, Knowledge Reports, DFMEA/PFMEA, and design reviews.

    Project, Customer & Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Manage multiple engineering projects and priorities simultaneously while maintaining focus on technical details and execution.
    • Provide timely project status updates, identify risks, and drive actions to maintain schedule, cost, quality, and technical objectives.
    • Support strategic customers, technical reviews, customer visits, and product presentations as required.
    • Work cross-functionally with design, operations, quality, sourcing, product management, sales, marketing, finance, suppliers, and customers.
    • May work with outside engineering services or suppliers to support engineering and other departments.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

    Manufacturing & Operations Support

    • Partner with global Operations teams to improve production, processes, quality, efficiency, and cost.
    • Support manufacturing issue resolution, corrective action, and continuous improvement activities.
    • Support fixture design, tooling improvements, automation projects, assembly process improvements, and process validation.
    • Ensure design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly practices are used during product development and sustaining engineering.

    Qualifications - Education/Experience:

    Education & Experience Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; Mechanical Engineering preferred.
    • Master's degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, or Business Administration preferred.
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in connector product design, product engineering, manufacturing engineering support, or new product development.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in engineering leadership or engineering management.
    • Demonstrated experience leading global engineering teams and supporting multiple locations.
    • Strong experience managing Core Products, New Product Development, product lifecycle activities, and manufacturing support.
    • Connector testing experience required including temperature rise, mechanical testing, environmental testing, cross-sections, and qualification testing.
    • Solid understanding of connector regulatory requirements including UL, IEC, etc.
    • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with ability to work across design, operations, quality, sourcing, product management, sales, and customers.
    • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
    • Strong decision-making ability with clear rationale for engineering and business decisions.

    Technical Requirements

    • Strong connector product design and product engineering experience required.
    • Proficiency in SolidWorks, Creo/Pro Engineer, PDM, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Expertise in drawings, tolerance analysis, GD&T, engineering documentation, BOMs, ECNs, and product release packages.
    • Strong knowledge of connector manufacturing processes including progressive die stamping, injection molding, crimping, ultrasonic welding, plating, machining, and assembly.
    • Working knowledge of Lean principles including 5S, Root Cause Analysis, A3s, Knowledge Reports, and Kaizen preferred.
    • Familiarity with connector standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
    • Ability to effectively use or direct engineering analysis including FEA, mold flow simulation, heat transfer analysis, electrical simulation, and signal integrity analysis preferred.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced global environment across multiple time zones.
    • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.

    Travel Requirements

    • Domestic and international travel required to engineering locations, manufacturing facilities, suppliers, and customers.
    • Travel may include China, Mexico, North America, and other global locations as required.
