Our client is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager specializing in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection (MEP/FP) to lead and grow its building engineering practice in Boston.
This is a contract-to-hire opportunity for a collaborative leader who enjoys developing high-performing multidisciplinary teams, shaping business strategy, and delivering complex building projects. You will partner with an award-winning architecture practice, lead major pursuits, and work directly with prominent clients across aviation and transportation, research and science, higher education, and municipal, state, and federal markets.
The ideal candidate is passionate about sustainable design, high-performance buildings, and innovative HVAC and utility systems.
Lead and expand the Boston building engineering practice, balancing technical excellence, team development, client service, project delivery, and business performance.
Develop and execute a strategic plan to strengthen local MEP/FP capabilities and build an integrated, multidisciplinary engineering team.
Lead major project pursuits, including stand-alone MEP/FP opportunities and projects delivered as part of larger multidisciplinary teams.
Serve as a technical leader and quality reviewer across projects of varying size and complexity.
Act as design manager on complex projects with significant engineering scope, partnering with project managers to deliver accurate, coordinated, and high-quality documents.
Lead interdisciplinary coordination and quality reviews while ensuring applicable engineering standards are met.
Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop engineers at all career levels.
Manage forecasting, resource planning, goal-setting, performance management, and annual reviews for the mechanical engineering team.
Collaborate with electrical engineering leadership on staffing, performance, and departmental planning.
Build trusted client relationships, participate in interviews, and contribute to compelling proposals and presentations.
Provide technical vision and thought leadership for mechanical engineering and high-performance building design.
Success in this position will be measured through team growth and engagement, technical quality, client satisfaction, successful project delivery, and the continued expansion of the Boston practice.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
At least eight years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, including work on multidisciplinary building projects, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering.
Ability to obtain professional licensure in additional U.S. states as needed.
Ten or more years of relevant engineering experience, including at least two years in a formal leadership role.
Demonstrated success leading and developing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Strong commitment to client service and experience supporting business development.
Proven ability to build positive working relationships and lead through collaboration, influence, and inclusion.
Experience with aviation, transportation, research and science, higher education, and/or federal-sector projects.
Strong background in sustainable and high-performance building design.
Knowledge of advanced HVAC and central utility plant systems.
Experience leading technical reviews and coordinating complex engineering deliverables.
