McKay is seeking an ambitious, energetic and commercially minded Engineering Manager NZ to lead and grow our engineering business. This is an opportunity to take a highly capable engineering team and help shape what comes next. We're looking for someone with technical credibility, but this isn't a role for someone who wants to sit behind a desk reviewing designs.

This role is about leadership. It's about building trusted client relationships, identifying opportunities, growing capability, developing future leaders, and creating an engineering team that people want to be part of.

You'll be the face of our engineering capability with clients, a coach and mentor to our engineers, and a key contributor to McKay's future growth.

What You'll Be Responsible For:

Growing Our Engineering Business

• Developing and executing the strategy for McKay's Engineering function.
• Identifying opportunities to grow existing client relationships and open new markets.
• Working alongside operational and commercial leaders to win new work.
• Contributing to bids, proposals and solution development.
• Representing McKay with clients, partners and industry stakeholders.

Building an Outstanding Team

• Leading, coaching and developing a team of talented engineers.
• Creating an environment where people can do their best work.
• Growing capability and building future engineering leaders.
• Attracting and retaining great people.
• Fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.

Delivering Engineering Excellence

• Providing technical leadership and assurance across engineering projects.
• Supporting teams to solve complex technical challenges.
• Ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
• Driving innovation, quality and continuous improvement.

About You:

You're probably not actively looking for a job.

You are likely someone who:

• Has strong engineering credentials and technical credibility.
• Qualified Electrical or Automation Engineer with 5 years plus experience.
• Has experience leading and developing engineering teams.
• Has successfully grown client relationships and won new work.
• Enjoys being in front of customers and understands how businesses grow.
• Has a reputation for developing great people.
• Brings energy, positivity and momentum wherever they go.
• Can move comfortably between technical discussions, commercial conversations and people leadership.
• Is ambitious for both yourself and the people around you.

Most importantly, you genuinely enjoy helping people succeed and creating opportunities where others see obstacles.
