About the Opportunity
Recruit22 is partnering with a leading organization to identify an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a software engineering team responsible for designing, building, and modernizing enterprise applications.
This role combines people leadership, software delivery, technical direction, cloud modernization, and AI innovation. The ideal candidate has a strong software engineering background and has transitioned into leadership while remaining technically credible and engaged with architecture and engineering decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers.
- Own engineering delivery, quality, execution, and technical outcomes.
- Partner with product, business, architecture, and technology leaders to translate business needs into scalable software solutions.
- Provide technical leadership across application architecture, microservices, APIs, integrations, and cloud-native development.
- Drive modernization initiatives utilizing Microsoft Azure.
- Guide the adoption of AI-powered development capabilities, LLM integrations, agents, and automation.
- Establish and reinforce engineering best practices around code quality, testing, CI/CD, security, observability, and reliability.
- Conduct technical and architecture reviews while ensuring teams follow established engineering standards.
- Manage priorities, technical dependencies, delivery risks, and resource allocation.
- Support hiring, onboarding, performance development, and career growth for engineers.
- Foster an engineering culture focused on ownership, collaboration, continuous improvement, and innovation.
Required Experience
- 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience.
- 3+ years of experience leading or managing software engineering teams.
- Strong background building and supporting large-scale enterprise applications.
- Experience leading engineers in an Agile software development environment.
- Strong technical background with technologies such as:
- C# / .NET Core
- Java
- Python
- Go
- React.js
- Next.js
- TypeScript
- Strong understanding of:
- Microservices architecture
- Event-driven systems
- Domain-Driven Design (DDD)
- Cloud-native application development
- RESTful APIs and enterprise integration patterns
- Experience with Microsoft Azure technologies such as:
- AKS
- Azure Functions
- Azure Service Bus
- Cosmos DB
- Azure DevOps
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or Bicep.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD, DevSecOps, containers, and Kubernetes.
- Demonstrated ability to balance technical priorities, business requirements, and delivery commitments.
AI & Emerging Technology Experience
Experience with or exposure to modern AI software development capabilities is highly desirable, including:
- AI agents and agentic workflows
- LLM integrations using platforms such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini
- Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
- Vector databases and semantic search
- AI-powered automation
- Incorporating AI into enterprise applications and engineering workflows
Leadership Qualifications
- Proven experience managing, mentoring, and developing software engineers.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across engineering, product, architecture, and business teams.
- Ability to provide technical leadership without needing to be the primary hands-on developer.
- Experience establishing engineering standards and improving development practices.
- Comfortable leading teams through modernization, architectural change, and adoption of new technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading cloud modernization initiatives.
- Azure Solutions Architect certification or equivalent cloud experience.
- Experience with GraphQL.
- Experience implementing observability and reliability engineering practices.
- Experience building or scaling engineering teams.
- Experience introducing AI-assisted development practices into engineering organizations.
Education
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline preferred.
- Equivalent professional experience will be considered.
