Salary Range: $45.95 - $69.23 per hour

Factors that may be used to determine where newly hired employees will be placed in the pay range include the employee specific skills and qualifications, relevant years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most often, a newly hired employee will be placed below the midpoint of the range.

Responsibilities

Position Overview: 

The Engineering Supervisor oversees and coordinates daily operations of the plant operations and engineering department to ensure the facility maintains a safe, efficient, and compliant environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role provides direct supervision of engineering staff, manages workflows, ensures adherence to codes and regulations, and supports ongoing performance improvement initiatives within the department.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Current California Driver's License
  • Current and ongoing Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) that is considered insurable under Community Memorial Healthcare's insurance coverage
  • Fifteen (15) years of general maintenance experience working with electrical, plumbing, HVAC and/or mechanical equipment
  • Ten (10) years of hospital maintenance experience
  • Current knowledge of local, state and federal regulations
  • Ability to read plans and blueprints
  • Familiar with Energy Management Systems (EMS), Fire Alarm Systems (FAS), and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in Electronics or Engineering
  • Five (5) years of experience with construction management, Fire/Life Safety systems and BMS/EMS
  • Knowledge of tools and/or instrumentation used for troubleshooting and repair
  • Journeyman Electrician License
  • Refrigeration Recovery License
  • Building Management System Certification (BMS)

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise engineering staff in the operation and maintenance of facility systems, including generators, boilers, chillers, HVAC systems, medical gas, and vacuum systems.
  • Establish, implement, and monitor departmental standards, procedures, and work assignments to ensure efficient operations and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Assign and review daily job tasks and work orders; coordinate priorities to support clinical and operational needs.
  • Conduct inspections and evaluations of work performed to ensure quality, safety, and adherence to established procedures.
  • Serve as a secondary point of contact for nursing and clinical staff regarding maintenance needs affecting patient care environments.
  • Monitor, document, and report maintenance issues or losses to management promptly.
  • Lead and participate in departmental performance improvement activities.
  • Assist the Engineering Manager in operations across hospital and clinic sites, including scheduling and shift coverage (first, second, and third shifts).
  • Assist in fire and life safety compliance for all assigned facilities.
  • Provide 24/7 on-call support for emergencies.
  • Direct and oversee construction, remodels, rebuilds, and emergency response efforts (e.g., flooding) for hospital and medical office buildings (MOBs).
  • Manage and coordinate work with onsite contractors to ensure quality and compliance with project requirements.
  • Respond to emergencies at hospitals and clinics and assign resources in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, applicable laws, and department processes for engineering staff. Responsibilities include interviewing, training, planning, scheduling, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems as needed.
