    Engineering Technician II/III

    Location: Huntsville, AL (NASA Marshall Space Flight Center - Redstone Arsenal)

    Contract: METTS III

    Astrion is seeking a highly skilled Engineering Technician II/III to support the Marshall Engineering Technicians and Trades Support (METTS) III contract at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) located on Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama.

    This position is in support of the METTS III contract at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) on the Redstone Arsenal located in Huntsville, Alabama. This position is in direct support of the Valve and Component Laboratory supporting test activities as well as other pressure systems activity across MSFC.

    This position is for first shift working 4-10 schedule 6:00am - 4:30pm Mondays through Thursdays.

    Performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed involving a sequence of related operations necessary to restore components to their original condition. Receives detailed process instructions and seeks explicit advice from Team Lead or a senior technician on unfamiliar assignments as needed and performs recurring work independently. Records and documents pertinent component information and operation in process instructions during servicing. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy and conformity with process instructions upon completion. Technician should be familiar with mechanical equipment such as valves, regulators, gauges, pumps.

    This technician performs one or a combination of such typical duties as:

    • Responsible for disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, repair, and hydrostatic/pneumatic testing of various valves, including but not limited to pressure reducing regulators, manual and actuated hand valves, gate valves, globe valves, ball valves, check valves, solenoids, and safety/pressure relief valves.
    • Read and interpret schematics pertaining to the assembly, repair, and reassembly of valves in high pressure, hydraulic, or cryogenic environments.
    • Operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
    • Follow documentation and formal instructions given in accordance with all MSFC Quality Control procedures and ASME, API, and National Board codes and standards, as well as manufacturers specifications.
    • Thoroughly complete all documentation associated with testing and repairs on a Work Management Computer system. (Windows OS)
    • Communicate timely updates to management and co-workers to ensure timely and successful completion of job responsibilities.
    • Manage a large number of active tasks with varied schedules.
    • Shall obtain "Valve Repair" Certification through OJT and internal or third-party training.
    • Other Duties as assigned.

    Required Experience/Education:

    • Engineering Technician II position candidate must possess a high school diploma with at least one (1) year of directly relatable work experience per the requirements listed above.

    Preferred Experience: (i.e.: Knowledge, skills, abilities, software, etc.)

    • Engineering Technician II requires a High School Diploma/GED with at least one (1) year of engineering technician experience, preferably related to maintenance and repair of mechanical components.
    • Trade School/Associate of Science Degree in an Aerospace or Industrial field.
    • Knowledge in pressure system operations at NASA or another Aerospace organization is strongly desired.
    • Familiarity with NBIC repairs.
    • Familiarity with Clean Room operations.

    Essential Job Functions:

    Work Environment: Indoor and industrial and laboratory settings

    Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on occasion, stand for long periods of time.

    Security Clearance Requirement: None/Public Trust Only. Must be a US Citizen.
