The Engineering Technician III works closely with cross-functional engineering teams to execute engineering and reliability testing, support Research & Development (R&D) activities, and maintain laboratory compliance. This role requires strong hands-on technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment while adhering to quality and safety standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Test Execution & Support
- Independently perform reliability testing, including test setup, execution, data collection, troubleshooting, and documentation.
- Support investigations related to product non-conformances and corrective actions.
- Interpret and execute test protocols, procedures, and engineering instructions of varying complexity.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic test fixtures and equipment.
- Collect, analyze, and document test results with a high degree of accuracy.
- Generate detailed test reports and records in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
- Collaborate with engineers to support product development, verification, validation, and sustaining engineering activities.
R&D Support
- Procure equipment, components, and supplies, including initiating and tracking purchase orders.
- Coordinate domestic and international shipments of equipment and materials, including hazardous materials (e.g., batteries, chemicals, and other regulated items).
- Maintain inventory and organization of laboratory equipment, components, and engineering samples.
- Support engineers with soldering, PCB modifications, prototype assembly, and other technical activities.
- Ensure R&D teams have the equipment, tools, materials, and laboratory resources required to effectively execute projects.
- Assist with laboratory setup and preparation for testing activities.
Laboratory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, quality, and operating procedures.
- Maintain equipment calibration records and coordinate calibration activities.
- Lead routine laboratory maintenance activities on weekly, monthly, and annual schedules.
- Initiate and support non-conformance reporting and documentation activities.
- Maintain laboratory organization, cleanliness, and operational readiness.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to laboratory operations, safety, and efficiency.

Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and metrology principles.
Hands-on experience with lab equipment, including:
Digital multimeters
Programmable power supplies
Signal generators
Oscilloscopes
Data acquisition/logging systems
Battery and electromagnetic compliance equipment
Hands-on experience with soldering, PCB assembly, and PCB modifications.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and electronic documentation systems.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma required with 6 plus years' work experience as an engineering technician in a related position within a manufacturing or testing organization.
- An associates degree in a related technical field with 4 plus years' work experience, or a bachelor's degree in a related technical field with 2 plus year's work experience
- Medical device industry experience preferred but not required.
Work Environment
100% onsite role based in Lake Forest, IL.
Work hours aligned with engineering team schedules.
Combination of laboratory and office environment.
Requires use of technical lab equipment and standard office tools.

Repetitive manual tasks
Occasional lifting (up to 25lbs)
Travel requirements:
Less than 5% travel.
Occasional support at third-party labs, potentially outside standard hours
Salary Range - $56,250 - $80,625
The salary range displayed represents the annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay for this role. The actual salary may vary [differ] based upon various factors, including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, education, licensure/certifications, and geographic location.
