We’re hiring Tutoring Specialists to work with students in the following areas:
Frontier Tutoring works with students from elementary school through college, and the subjects and levels you teach will depend on your experience, expertise, and interests.
At its core, this job is about building a connection with a student and helping them make progress. We believe finding the right tutor is a lot like finding the right therapist: subject knowledge matters, but so does personality, communication style, and the relationship you build with the student.
We’re looking for people who know their subject well, enjoy explaining things, and genuinely like working with students.
Tutoring Specialists have a lot of control over their own availability, and we match students with tutors based on subject expertise, personality, and scheduling. Hours vary depending on student demand and are not guaranteed.
We’re looking for tutors who can work with us throughout the academic year. We do not hire for summer-only positions.
This position is especially well suited to current UAA students and recent graduates, though we welcome applications from qualified candidates from other backgrounds as well.
Your work will include things like:
Our ideal tutor is someone who:
Previous tutoring or teaching experience is helpful, but we’re also interested in candidates who have developed teaching skills through mentoring, coaching, peer instruction, or similar experiences.
A general familiarity with Anchorage schools and curriculum is helpful but not required.
Being an excellent student doesn’t automatically make someone an excellent tutor.
We’re looking for people who enjoy the process of helping someone else understand something—not just people who happen to be good at the subject themselves.
Some students will grasp a concept immediately. Others may need you to explain the same idea three different ways before something clicks. Great tutors are curious about why a student is struggling and are willing to adjust their approach until they find something that works.
That adaptability is a big part of what makes someone successful here.
Applicants may be asked to provide transcripts or proof of enrollment in or graduation from an accredited college or university when relevant to the subjects they will teach.
Our standards for test-prep instructors are intentionally high. To teach SAT or ACT preparation at Frontier Tutoring, you must demonstrate the ability to score in the 99th percentile on the corresponding section of the exam. You do not need to arrive already knowing our test-prep curriculum. We provide training on our instructional approach, strategies, materials, and program structure.
If you’re excited about this role but don’t meet every single bullet point, we still encourage you to apply. We care far more about your curiosity, work ethic, and how you show up for your team than about checking every box.
