Team: Enterprise Architecture
Reports to: Senior Manager, Enterprise Architecture
Location / work arrangement: Poughkeepsie, NY — Hybrid or remote for the right candidate
Employment type: Contract-to-hire

What is an Enterprise Architecture Analyst?
The Enterprise Architecture Analyst is a member of the Enterprise Architecture (EA) team and works under the guidance of senior Enterprise Architects, who set architectural direction, own the target architecture, and lead governance forums. The EA Analyst extends the team's reach by developing and maintaining architecture artifacts, preparing governance materials, and acting as a day-to-day architecture contact for delivery teams.
Beyond the EA team, the EA Analyst works with delivery teams, project leaders, and business stakeholders to help design technology solutions that are practical, scalable, and secure. Day to day, this means building architecture documents, reviewing proposed designs, and helping make sure technology investments support business goals.
This role is designed as an entry point into enterprise architecture. It is well suited to experienced IT professionals—such as solution or systems analysts, business analysts, systems engineers, data engineers or analysts, and senior developers—who have contributed to architecture work and want to build a career in architecture.
What does an Enterprise Architecture Analyst do?
The Enterprise Architecture Analyst is responsible for the following:
  • Develop architecture materials: Help create and maintain business capability maps, technology roadmaps, reference architectures, standards, and reusable design patterns.
  • Work with architecture specialists: Coordinate with Security, Application, Infrastructure, and Data teams to document requirements and check proposed designs against enterprise standards.
  • Bring architecture into project intake: Work with Business Relationship Managers, GRC, and PMO to identify architecture questions and risks early, before key project decisions are made.
  • Support Architecture Review Board decisions: Prepare review materials, present findings, record decisions and conditions, and follow up on items assigned through the review.
  • Review proposed solutions: Work with delivery teams to identify design risks, duplicated capabilities, and integration gaps, and document where a proposal differs from the target architecture.
  • Support Design Authorities: Participate in Design Authorities for assigned high-priority initiatives, documenting decisions and tracking technical, functional, and strategic alignment.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies: Research new tools and approaches as assigned and summarize their business value, risks, and fit with enterprise standards in written recommendations.
  • Communicate architecture: Create executive-ready visuals, playbooks, and knowledge articles that explain architecture decisions and value, and keep EA content current and accessible.
What does success look like?
In this role, success is demonstrated by:
  • Assigned capability maps, roadmaps, and reference architectures are current, reviewed, and published in the EA repository.
  • Architecture Review Board materials are prepared on schedule, and decisions and conditions are recorded and tracked to closure.
  • Architecture risks and questions are raised at intake rather than discovered late in delivery.
  • Solution reviews produce documented findings, including any deviations from the target architecture and agreed remediation.
  • Feedback collected from delivery teams and domain specialists after ARB and Design Authority reviews confirms that architecture support was timely and useful.
Where can this role lead?
This is a contract-to-hire position, with the opportunity to convert to a full-time role on the Enterprise Architecture team.
Once converted, the Enterprise Architecture Analyst has the opportunity to grow within the Enterprise Architecture team. With experience, the EA Analyst can progress to an Enterprise Architect role, taking on greater ownership of target architectures, governance decisions, and strategic planning.
What does it take to be an Enterprise Architecture Analyst?
Required:
  • Education and experience, either: a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field and at least 4 years of IT experience; or an associate's degree in one of these fields and at least 7 years of IT experience. Utility industry IT experience is a plus.
  • IT experience in areas such as solution design, data management, or systems engineering, including 1–3 years contributing to solution or enterprise architecture deliverables (counted within the total years above).
  • Exposure to at least two technical architecture domains (data, application, infrastructure, or security).
  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture concepts such as capability mapping, roadmapping, and governance.
  • Effective communication, storytelling, and facilitation skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to executive, business, and technical audiences.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills across functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze business problems and align technology solutions to business needs.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to company offices and facilities as needed.
Preferred:
  • Experience in utilities, energy, or other regulated industries.
  • Background in data architecture, data modeling, integration, or analytics enablement.
  • Working knowledge of EA and IT governance frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, COBIT) and Agile practices (preferably SAFe).
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow, Jira, or similar workflow/portfolio tools.
  • Experience supporting Architecture Review Boards or similar governance forums.
  • Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Certified Business Architect (CBA), or security-focused architecture credentials.
