About the Opportunity
We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic Entry-Level Civil and Environmental Engineers to join our growing team supporting the Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) Lead Service Line Replacement Program. As a key program partner to CDM Smith, our team of engineering professionals plays an important role in supporting engineering design, field investigations, construction management, project coordination, and infrastructure improvements throughout the New Orleans area.
This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates and early-career engineers looking to gain hands-on experience, meaningful project responsibilities, and exposure to multiple areas of engineering. You will work closely with experienced professional engineers, project managers, construction managers, and field teams while contributing to a major public infrastructure initiative that directly impacts the local community.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist with civil and water infrastructure engineering design, planning, and technical documentation.
• Support lead service line investigations, assessments, and replacement planning.
• Review engineering drawings, construction plans, project quantities, and field reports.
• Coordinate with survey teams, contractors, inspectors, and field personnel to support project activities.
• Participate in field investigations, site visits, construction observations, and project inspections.
• Assist with construction management activities, including monitoring project schedules, budgets, and progress.
• Prepare technical reports, spreadsheets, project exhibits, and other engineering documentation.
• Support project procurement, scheduling, and coordination activities.
• Participate in project meetings and collaborate with senior engineers, project managers, and program partners.
• Assist in identifying project challenges and developing practical engineering solutions.
• Gain exposure to the complete project lifecycle, from initial investigation and design through construction and completion.
Qualifications
Required:
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Recent graduates and candidates with 0–2 years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
• Ability to work collaboratively with engineering teams, contractors, and project stakeholders.
• Willingness to participate in both office-based engineering activities and fieldwork.
• Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn.
Preferred:
• Internship or academic project experience involving civil engineering, water infrastructure, utilities, or construction.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, or similar engineering software.
• Basic understanding of engineering drawings, construction documentation, and project management principles.
• Engineer Intern (EI/EIT) certification or plans to pursue professional engineering licensure.
What Makes This Opportunity Different?
We believe early-career engineers should have opportunities to learn, contribute, and grow from the beginning. Rather than focusing on a single repetitive task, this position offers exposure to multiple areas of engineering and project delivery.
What you can expect:
• Hands-On Engineering Experience: Participate in real-world infrastructure projects involving design, field investigations, and construction.
• Professional Growth: Learn directly from experienced professional engineers, project managers, and industry specialists.
• Diverse Project Exposure: Develop practical knowledge in engineering design, construction management, field operations, and project coordination.
• Meaningful Community Impact: Contribute to improvements in New Orleans' water infrastructure and public water service.
• Career Development: Build a strong foundation for future opportunities in civil engineering, environmental engineering, and infrastructure project management.
• Collaborative Team Environment: Work alongside professionals who value teamwork, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning.
