Entry Level Fleet Mechanic Compensation

Metro bases its Entry Level Fleet Mechanic pay structure on education and mechanical aptitude assessments scores. Metro offers paid training for those who wish to become an Entry Level Fleet Mechanic but do not currently possess a commercial drivers license and passenger endorsement. When ready, our mechanical aptitude test allows each employee to level up at their own pace. Entry Level Fleet Mechanic starting pay rate is $21.02 HR, with $30.03 HR as top pay.

Job Duties

• Repair and signs, change lights, mirrors, seats, and other similar bolt-on components. • Steam clean engine compartments and other bus parts as required. • Cleaning and degreasing of wheels and coach rear panels. • Removal of graffiti from interiors and exteriors. • Assist Repairperson as required. • Ability to understand and use basic test instruments and gauges. • Make all necessary reports and keep records both written and data entry in accordance with the policies, procedures, and requirements of Metro. • Keep work area clean, free of safety hazards, and in orderly condition. • Drive any vehicle owned and operated by Metro as defined by qualification and job classification. • Work in a safe manner with all required protective devices in accordance with Metro safety policy and procedures.

Physical Demands & Qualifications

Physical Demands:

Lifting, lowering, and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Standing, walking, sitting, climbing ladders, balancing, kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling, lower back movements, reaching, horizontal, vertical, elbow movements, wrist movements, fine motor finger movements. Performing overhead work. Standing or walking in awkward or cramped positions. Neck movements, gripping, and foot action. Performing repetitive motions. Exerting moderate force to move objects. Maintaining focus in noisy environments. Using hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and visual acuity for detail-oriented tasks. Having mental alertness for safety and diagnostics. Using fine motor skills to manipulate tools with precision.

Qualifications:

Must possess a high school diploma or GED. Must be able to pass a Mechanical Aptitude Test. Must be 21 years of age or older. Must have open availability to work across all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Valid Drivers License, with no more than 4 points on the motor vehicle report. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a CDL Class B with passenger endorsement. Must be able to pass a DOT or non-DOT drug screen. Physical pre-employment testing is dependent upon pay rate.
