Our client, an environmental services company, is seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist to support permitting, monitoring, and reporting activities across its Philadelphia-area operations. This is a contract position suited to a professional with a solid grounding in federal and state environmental regulations who can work independently while coordinating with site managers and regulatory agencies.
The role involves reviewing facility operations against EPA and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection requirements, preparing permit applications and renewals, and maintaining documentation needed for audits and inspections. The specialist will also track regulatory deadlines and flag potential compliance gaps before they become issues.
This position offers exposure to a range of industrial and commercial clients and is a good fit for someone who wants hands-on regulatory experience without the overhead of a full-time corporate compliance role.
Responsibilities
Review facility operations for compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations
Prepare and submit permit applications and renewals to relevant agencies
Maintain records required for environmental audits and inspections
Track regulatory deadlines and reporting requirements across multiple sites
Coordinate with site managers to address compliance gaps
Draft standard operating procedures related to environmental compliance
Support responses to regulatory agency inquiries and site visits
Assist with employee training on environmental compliance procedures
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, or related field
Minimum 4 years of experience in environmental compliance or regulatory affairs
Working knowledge of EPA and Pennsylvania DEP regulations
Experience preparing permit applications and compliance reports
Strong written communication skills for regulatory documentation
Ability to work independently and manage multiple site deadlines
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and environmental data management systems
Valid driver's license for occasional site visits
