We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead environmental investigation, remediation, compliance, and asset-retirement projects for upstream oil and gas clients, as well as government and private-sector environmental programs throughout New Mexico and the western United States.

Based in Albuquerque, New Mexico you'll serve as a key leader within our growing environmental practice, overseeing project execution from planning through closure while managing multidisciplinary project teams. This role will provide direct supervision and mentorship to junior technical staff, including environmental scientists, engineers, geologists, and field technicians supporting environmental remediation and asset-retirement activities.

You'll be responsible for delivering complex environmental projects involving upstream oil and gas facilities, wellsites, production infrastructure, pipeline assets, facility decommissioning, site investigations, remediation programs, regulatory compliance, and closure activities. Working directly with clients, regulators, subcontractors, and Jacobs technical specialists, you'll ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with client objectives and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities include project planning and execution, client relationship management, scope and budget development, proposal preparation, subcontractor procurement and management, contract administration, financial performance tracking, invoicing, risk management, technical review, resource planning, and staff development. You'll maintain regular communication with clients and regulatory agencies while helping identify and pursue new business opportunities within the environmental and energy sectors.

In this role, you'll balance project delivery with team leadership, ensuring junior staff receive appropriate guidance, mentorship, and opportunities for professional growth. This is a hybrid position that combines office leadership, client engagement, project site visits, and remote work flexibility as needed to support project delivery and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead environmental investigation, remediation, compliance, and asset-retirement projects for upstream oil and gas clients and other industrial, commercial, and government clients.
  • Serve as the primary day-to-day point of contact for clients, maintaining strong working relationships and ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, forecasting, invoicing, and overall financial performance.
  • Direct and mentor a team consisting of environmental scientists, engineers, geologists, and field technicians.
  • Supervise and support the Entry-Level Environmental Engineer/Scientist and Entry-Level Field Technician positions assigned to the New Mexico asset-retirement program.
  • Develop work plans, proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and subcontractor scopes of work.
  • Coordinate field activities including site characterization, environmental sampling, remediation system operation and maintenance, construction oversight, excavation, and closure activities.
  • Oversee subcontractor procurement, contracting, mobilization, performance, and safety.
  • Interface with state and federal regulatory agencies and support permit compliance activities.
  • Review and approve technical reports, work plans, closure reports, and regulatory submittals.
  • Support business development efforts through client engagement, proposal preparation, and identification of follow-on opportunities.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with Jacobs and client health and safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with Jacobs Global Integrated Delivery teams and technical specialists to deliver high-quality project outcomes.

Here's what you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressively responsible experience managing environmental projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing environmental investigation, remediation, compliance, or restoration projects for private or government clients.
  • Experience supporting upstream oil and gas facilities, wellsites, production assets, gathering systems, pipelines, asset-retirement programs, or energy-sector environmental projects.
  • Proven experience managing project budgets, schedules, contracts, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing junior technical staff.
  • Strong client communication and relationship management skills.
  • Experience preparing proposals, scopes of work, and cost estimates.
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations and permitting frameworks.
  • Ability to travel periodically to project sites throughout New Mexico and surrounding states.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification with annual refreshers.

Ideally, You'll Also Have:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • New Mexico environmental consulting experience.
  • Experience managing large-scale asset retirement, facility closure, or decommissioning programs.
  • Experience with remediation design, corrective action implementation, and construction oversight.
  • Experience working directly with upstream oil and gas operators on closure liabilities, environmental compliance, and reclamation programs.
  • Established client relationships within the New Mexico energy, environmental, or industrial markets.
  • Experience leading proposal capture efforts and developing new business opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of Jacobs project delivery systems and financial performance metrics.

Posted Salary Range: Upper

126,700.00

The base salary range for this position is $92,100.00 to $126,700.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
