    About this position: Environmental Scientist, III                  Location  - Anchorage, AK

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    • Safely execute all job duties 
    • Manage and support the preparation of environmental documents
    • Lead assigned tasks
    • Prepare and update work plans
    • Prepare and update reports
    • Collect and analyze data
    • Manage and implement field programs
    • Assist overall project management tasks as assigned
    • Support the program manager in preparation and implementation of client and stakeholder meetings
    • Perform subcontractor oversight
    • Perform junior staff oversight

    Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications

    • Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science
    • Level of Experience Requirements: Strong written and oral communication skills
    • 40 Hour HAZWOPER Training
    • Willingness, desire, and ability to adapt to a changing regulatory climate
    • Meet Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) Qualified Environmental Professional requirements (18 AAC 333.3)
    • Minimum five (5) to eight (8) years of experience in environmental investigation and remediation activities including environmental work planning, investigation and evaluation, and reporting
    • Working experience with CERCLA regulations and processes and ADEC Contaminated Sites regulations.
    • Working experience with Federal and state agencies and local stakeholders on environmental projects
    • Familiarity with technical data analysis and contamination delineation techniques
    • Experience installing, developing, sampling, and decommissioning monitoring wells 
    • Experience with Federal, utility or private sector clients

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

    • Microsoft® Office Suite
    • Working knowledge of Federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidance for contaminated sites.
    • Strong organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, computer literacy, and strong attention to detail
    • Ability to manage and perform simultaneous or subsequent cleanup activities at multiple remote Alaska locations throughout the year
    • Ability to find solutions to the unique logistical and environmental challenges facing Alaska-based projects
    • Experience investigating and remediating hazardous substances and petroleum spills
    • Ability to perform quality control functions during site work
    • Ability to prepare risk assessment tables from environmental data sets.

    Preferred

    • Environmental Proposal Development Experience
    • Experience participating in all phases of environmental investigation and remediation projects
    • Contaminant fate and transport evaluation and modeling
    • GIS and survey experience

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    • This position will have supervisory responsibilities.

    DOT Covered/Safety-Sensitive Role Requirements

    • This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation “safety-sensitive” functions.

    Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time.

    This position requires the ability to maneuver around contaminated and construction sites, see, hear, and verbally communicate with co-workers and clients.  Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, walking or standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, reaching, squatting, stretching, bending for prolonged periods of time; at times lift and carry as much at 40 pounds.

    The ability to properly use personnel protective equipment (PPE) including the required use at all times of hard hats, steel-toed boots, eye protection, and hearing protection.

    Work Environment

    The work environmental characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the role.     Job is performed in both a modern office setting and a field setting. Office setting requires exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system. Occasional travel and for extended overnight field work will be required. Field setting includes walking, driving, and carrying supplies up to 40 pounds on uneven ground throughout all seasons with exposure to hot and cold temperatures, and potential encounters with wildlife.

     

    Additional Qualifying Factors

    As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain and maintain the appropriate clearance levels required and must also be able to obtain access to military installations.
