We’re hiring a hands-on Equipment Maintenance Mechanic for a specialty food manufacturing facility in Wheeling, IL.

This is a wrench-turning position where you’ll be the go-to person for troubleshooting breakdowns, repairing machinery, and keeping production running. We’re looking for someone who can work independently, take ownership of equipment reliability, and handle varied maintenance needs in a smaller manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and gas-burning oven issues.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and respond to production breakdowns.

  • Troubleshoot motors and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).

  • Maintain production equipment, including a 70-foot tunnel oven, sheeters, conveyors, mixers, extruders, oil sprayers, and topping systems.

  • Repair packaging equipment, including horizontal over-wrappers, vertical fill machines, labelers, and shrink wrappers.

  • Support refrigeration equipment and air compressors.

  • Track equipment downtime and document repairs.

  • Coordinate outside vendors for specialized service.

  • Recommend practical improvements to reduce recurring breakdowns.

  • Occasionally support the nearby Bensenville facility.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of industrial maintenance experience; 5+ years preferred.

  • Hands-on experience with electrical maintenance, pneumatics, gas-burning ovens, and VFDs.

  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills and ability to complete repairs independently.

  • Comfortable working on production and packaging equipment.

  • Safety-conscious, dependable, and comfortable wearing multiple hats.

  • Food, beverage, or bakery manufacturing experience preferred.

No PLC programming experience required—there are no PLCs in this environment.

Schedule

Primary hours are noon–8 p.m., with an anticipated schedule of approximately four days per week. Final days and total weekly hours are being confirmed. Occasional third-shift overlap, off-shift support, and travel to Bensenville may be required.

Compensation and Benefits

  • $65,000–$95,000 annually, depending on experience.

  • Bonus opportunity tied to downtime reduction.

  • 401(k) plan.

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance after 90 days, with a stated 50% company contribution.

  • Up to three weeks of paid vacation, based on tenure.

Apply today if you enjoy troubleshooting machinery, making hands-on repairs, and keeping a production floor running.
