Position Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday–Friday, with flexibility based on operational needs
Brush Hog Tree Care, Inc. is a locally owned, woman-owned tree care and vegetation management company serving communities throughout Northern California. We specialize in professional tree services, wildfire fuel reduction, forestry mulching, land management, and emergency response.
We take pride in maintaining a skilled workforce, investing in professional development, and operating specialized equipment to deliver safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible services.
We're looking for a skilled, dependable, and mechanically inclined Equipment Mechanic / Operator to join our growing team.
The Equipment Mechanic / Operator is a dual-role position responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, servicing, maintaining, and repairing Brush Hog's fleet of vehicles, heavy equipment, and small-engine machinery while also supporting field operations through equipment operation and transportation.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who can independently troubleshoot mechanical issues, prioritize preventive maintenance, minimize equipment downtime, and safely operate a variety of forestry and construction equipment.
This position requires versatility, strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a team-oriented approach to supporting daily operations.

Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
Service and maintain forestry equipment, compact track loaders, excavators, masticators, slope mowers, chippers, trucks, trailers, and small-engine equipment.
Diagnose equipment malfunctions and determine appropriate repair solutions.
Perform routine servicing, including fluid changes, filter replacements, lubrication, belt adjustments, and component replacement.
Inspect and maintain brakes, steering, tracks, undercarriages, and hydraulic systems.
Perform minor welding, fabrication, and equipment modifications when qualified.
Coordinate specialized repairs with outside service providers and equipment dealerships as needed.
Heavy Equipment Operation & Field Support
Safely operate forestry and construction equipment, including compact track loaders, excavators, masticators, and other specialized machinery.
Assist with equipment loading, unloading, transportation, and mobilization between job sites.
Support vegetation management, fuel reduction, and land-clearing operations when needed.
Perform daily pre-operation and post-operation equipment inspections.
Assist field crews with equipment troubleshooting and minor repairs on job sites.
Respond to equipment breakdowns and operational needs in the field.
Fleet Management & Inventory
Maintain accurate equipment service records, inspection reports, and repair documentation.
Monitor and coordinate preventive maintenance schedules.
Track equipment condition, maintenance needs, and outstanding repairs.
Maintain organized inventory of tools, replacement parts, fluids, filters, and maintenance supplies.
Identify equipment requiring repair or replacement and communicate recommendations to management.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop and equipment storage area.
Assist with identifying opportunities to improve fleet reliability, efficiency, and equipment longevity.
Safety & Team Collaboration
Follow all company safety policies, equipment operating procedures, and manufacturer recommendations.
Identify and promptly report unsafe equipment conditions.
Communicate equipment status, repair timelines, and maintenance priorities to management.
Provide guidance to field personnel on proper equipment care, inspections, and basic maintenance.
Participate in company safety meetings, training, and professional development.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support company operations.
Required
California Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Demonstrated experience maintaining and repairing diesel- and gasoline-powered equipment.
Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
Ability to diagnose equipment problems and independently perform repairs.
Experience safely operating heavy equipment or demonstrated ability to become proficient through training.
Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, maintenance schedules, and parts diagrams.
Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and time-management skills.
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, outdoor work environment.
Willingness to perform both mechanical maintenance and equipment operation duties based on company needs.
Preferred
Two or more years of experience in diesel mechanics, heavy equipment maintenance, fleet maintenance, or a related field.
Experience maintaining forestry, agricultural, landscaping, or construction equipment.
Familiarity with ASV, FAE, compact track loaders, excavators, chippers, and related equipment.
Experience with hydraulic troubleshooting, welding, and metal fabrication.
Experience transporting heavy equipment and operating trucks with trailers.
Experience using digital fleet maintenance or equipment tracking systems.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and hands-on experience will be considered.
We're looking for someone who:
Takes pride in maintaining equipment and keeping it operating safely and efficiently.
Is proactive about preventive maintenance rather than waiting for breakdowns.
Can transition between shop repairs and field operations as needed.
Is resourceful, mechanically inclined, and solution-oriented.
Communicates effectively with operators, supervisors, and management.
Understands the importance of equipment reliability in meeting project deadlines.
Values safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
