The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Equipment Operator - Water & Wastewater Services

The Equipment Operator must be able to drive large trucks and be proficient in the use of heavy equipment, including but not limited to, Front-end Loader, Skid-steer Loader, Forklift, Dump Truck, Vacuum Truck, Tractor Trailer, and other equipment as assigned. Must show proficiency on all assigned pieces of equipment within six (6) months. Additional duties include completing daily paper-work, work-orders, demonstrating good communication skills, and being a team player.
General Description
Performs skilled work in the operation of large vehicles and equipment.
Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires one (1) year experience operating heavy equipment related to area of assignment.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Drivers License for duration of appointment
Candidates selected for interviews may be required to demonstrate their ability to operate various equipment utilized by the Public Works and Environmental Services Department - Water & Wastewater Operations Division. All candidates must complete an extensive ten (10) year work history verification and criminal background check, including fingerprinting. Per the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49, Part 1542, all employees (depending on area of assignment) must undergo a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) and a Security Threat Assessment (STA) in order to obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge, as required by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Ability to obtain and maintain Airfield driving privileges for movement and non-movement areas. The Department operates under a Drug-Free Workplace Policy in compliance with the provisions of the Federal Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988.

Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Transports construction equipment using a lowbed semi-trailer; operates tractor-trailer and tandem trucks in local hauling tasks; loads and unloads vehicles as required; operates heavy duty road roller in resurfacing and roadway construction; operates front-end loader or small tractor rigged with hydraulic loading lift and back hoe digging shovel; operates tractor and "bush hog" for mowing roadway shoulders and removing vegetation from drainage ditches; operates sweeper truck for cleaning roadways; may operate smaller earth moving equipment such as small bulldozers and bobcats.
Performs operator pre-checks on equipment; checks lubricants, cooling systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems; makes necessary minor adjustments and reports malfunctions to supervisor.
Performs related work as assigned.
