Equipment Technician

Job Summary

The Cell Equipment Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of manufacturing equipment used in battery cell production. This position plays a critical role in supporting safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing operations by ensuring production equipment operates at peak performance with minimal downtime. The technician will work closely with production teams, engineers, quality personnel, and maintenance staff to identify equipment issues, perform preventive maintenance activities, and implement continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity, quality, and safety. The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on battery cell manufacturing equipment, including coating, calendaring, slitting, stacking, winding, welding, electrolyte filling, formation, and related production systems.

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation-related equipment failures.

• Respond quickly to equipment alarms, malfunctions, and production interruptions to minimize downtime and maintain operational efficiency.

• Assist with the installation, startup, qualification, and commissioning of new manufacturing equipment and production lines.

• Inspect machinery and equipment regularly to identify wear, defects, or potential failure points before production is impacted.

• Calibrate sensors, instruments, gauges, and automated systems according to established procedures and quality standards.

• Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment and work with engineering teams to resolve automation and control system issues.

• Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, technical manuals, blueprints, and equipment documentation.

• Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, repair logs, and documentation within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

• Support root cause analysis activities related to equipment failures, quality concerns, and process disruptions.

• Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and quality teams to identify and implement process improvements that increase equipment reliability and productivity.

• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and 5S programs.

• Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company safety policies, environmental regulations, lockout/tagout procedures, and standard operating procedures.

• Assist in maintaining spare parts inventory and communicate equipment needs to maintenance leadership.

• Support production operations during scheduled and unscheduled maintenance events.

• Participate in shift handoff communications and provide detailed updates regarding equipment status and ongoing maintenance activities.
