ESL District Tester - BILINGUAL ASSESSMENT SPECIALIST PreK-8

The Bilingual Assessment Specialist serves a district-wide role in identifying and placing English Learner (EL) students across grades PreK-8. Operating under the Office of Language Acquisition, this position administers standardized language proficiency and placement assessments. The Specialist ensures that newly arrived multilingual learners complete language assessments that support timely and accurate instructional placements. Training on DESE assessment tools, WIDA Screening resources, and SLIFE evaluation frameworks will be provided.

• Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English with professional-level written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to collaborate with diverse families and guardians.
• Strong professional collaboration skills.

SUPERVISION:

Works under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of the Office of Language Acquisition.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Serve as an authoritative, district-wide resource regarding Waltham Public Schools multilingual programs and services.
• Administer WIDA English language proficiency screenings for eligible students (grades PreK-8), as well as SLIFE identification tools and biliteracy assessments for Dual Language programs.
• Evaluate Home Language Surveys and coordinate assessment schedules directly with families promptly.
• Analyze WIDA assessment outcomes to guide educational placement recommendations in consultation with the Executive Director of the Office of Language Acquisition.
• Promote educational equity and cultural responsiveness by offering dedicated liaison support and advocacy for families throughout registration, screening, and placement.
• Perform related duties and administrative responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of the Office of Language Acquisition.

Terms:

Part-time schedule not to exceed 15 hours per week. Specific working hours and schedule to be determined in coordination with the Office of Language Acquisition.

JOB ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily performed in a dynamic school office environment with frequent interactions and multitasking demands. Requires regular communication with district staff, administrators, and family members via telephone, email, and in person. Position handles sensitive student records and demands strict adherence to professional protocols, regulatory compliance, and confidentiality standards.
