Job Description

ABOUT 24 CARROTS

24 Carrots is a full-service, employee-owned catering and hospitality company creating exceptional events throughout Southern California. From weddings and social celebrations to corporate events and large-scale productions, our teams bring together hospitality, culinary excellence, and thoughtful execution to create memorable guest experiences.

We are looking for an experienced Event Captain who knows how to take an event from BEO to flawless execution — someone who can lead a service team, command a room, anticipate what is coming next, and keep service moving even when the unexpected happens.

THE ROLE

This is not simply a senior server position. Our Event Captains are the on-site leaders responsible for front-of-house service execution.

You will take ownership of the service experience from setup through breakdown, leading event staff and ensuring the details outlined in the BEO, floorplan, timeline, and service notes come to life accurately and professionally.

On event day, you will lead the service team, coordinate closely with Culinary and Beverage, communicate with planners and venue partners, manage service timing, and make real-time decisions to keep the event running smoothly.

The right candidate is comfortable being both a leader and hands-on operator. You should be equally comfortable directing a team before dinner service, communicating with a planner about timing, coaching a server during an event, checking the presentation of a dining room, and jumping in to help wherever needed.

WHAT YOU'LL LEAD

Event Execution

  • Review BEOs, floorplans, timelines, menus, service notes, allergies, and special guest considerations before each event.
  • Lead front-of-house execution from setup through breakdown.
  • Oversee guest-facing areas including tablescapes, buffets, stations, bars, and service areas.
  • Manage the flow and timing of cocktail hour, passed appetizers, plated or buffet service, dessert, late-night service, and breakdown.
  • Coordinate with Culinary and Beverage teams on course timing, replenishment, service progression, and guest needs.
  • Identify potential service or timeline issues early and make real-time adjustments to keep the event on track.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and direct event service teams on-site.
  • Conduct pre-event meetings and clearly communicate assignments, timing, service standards, side work, and expectations.
  • Assign sections and workflow while monitoring execution throughout the event.
  • Coach employees in real time and address service issues immediately and professionally.
  • Coordinate staff meal breaks, timekeeping, and event paperwork.
  • Document performance concerns and event feedback for Service management.

Client & Guest Experience

  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for service-related communication.
  • Communicate confidently and professionally with clients, planners, venue representatives, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Anticipate guest needs and resolve service issues without losing sight of the larger event.
  • Maintain a polished, calm, and solution-oriented presence — especially when timelines shift or challenges arise.

YOU MAY BE A GREAT FIT IF...

You have been the person responsible for asking:

“Is the room ready? Is the team ready? Is Culinary ready? What's our next service move?”

We are especially interested in candidates who have experience as a Banquet Captain, Catering Captain, Event Captain, Lead Server, Banquet Supervisor, or similar front-of-house event leader within:

  • Off-premises catering
  • Weddings and special events
  • Hotels and banquet operations
  • Luxury or high-end hospitality
  • Private dining
  • High-volume event environments

You understand that successful event leadership requires more than great guest service. It requires preparation, organization, urgency, communication, accountability, and the ability to lead a team through a detailed event timeline.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • 3–5 years of hospitality experience, preferably in catering, banquets, luxury events, hotels, private dining, or high-volume service.
  • Previous experience leading front-of-house teams during live events.
  • Strong working knowledge of BEOs, floorplans, event timelines, service sequences, and banquet/event operations.
  • Experience executing plated dinners, buffets, cocktail receptions, passed hors d'oeuvres, and other event service styles.
  • Ability to confidently direct a service team and provide real-time coaching and feedback.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to interact professionally with planners, clients, venue teams, and vendors.
  • Ability to anticipate problems, make sound decisions quickly, and remain composed when plans change.
  • High attention to detail and strong standards around presentation, cleanliness, organization, and guest experience.
  • Willingness to be hands-on with setup, breakdown, loading, unloading, and floor support when needed.
  • Availability to work a flexible event schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, and occasional schedule changes based on event needs.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • California Food Handler's Card and ServSafe Allergens Certification is required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Responsible Beverage Service certification required when assigned to oversee or support alcohol service.
