    Full Time Part Time St. John, IN - Naperville, IL - Lake Mills, WI Posted 3 months ago Back to jobs Apply Summary An EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) Service Technician/Mechanic diagnoses, repairs and maintains specialized emergency vehicles like fire trucks, ambulances and specialty, requiring deep knowledge of complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, requiring national EVTCC certifications for proving expertise in keeping first responders' crucial equipment operational. Essential Job Duties Inspection & Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance and detailed inspections on fire apparatus, ambulances, and other public safety vehicles. Diagnosis & Repair: Troubleshoot and fix complex issues with engines, transmissions, pumps, and specialized electronic systems. Upfitting: Install and configure new emergency equipment (lights, radios, sirens) on new vehicles. Testing: Test overhauled equipment to ensure it meets operational standards for safety and efficiency. Key Skills & Knowledge Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, and vehicle electrical systems. Ability to use diagnostic tools, hoists, and hand tools. Familiarity with specialized equipment like fire pumps and aerial devices. Certification(s) The Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Certification Commission (EVTCC) offers voluntary certifications (Levels I, II, Master) for Fire Apparatus, Ambulance, Law Enforcement, and ARFF (Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting) technicians.
