ABOUT THE
POSITION:
The Executive Director of School Operations serves as a senior school
support leader responsible for ensuring campuses receive responsive, high-
quality operational support that allows principals and teachers to focus on
teaching and learning. Reporting to the Senior Executive Director of Schools,
this role works in close partnership with the Executive Director of
Instructional Leadership and school leaders to coordinate non-instructional
supports, resolve barriers, and strengthen the day-to-day conditions that make
strong school performance possible.
This position helps translate district strategy into effective campus support by
ensuring that school operations do not function as a separate system from
school leadership and instructional priorities. The Executive Director of
School Operations oversees the coordination of school-facing operational
support across functions such as facilities, maintenance, transportation,
staffing-related processes, student services coordination, technology access,
and other operational needs that affect campus readiness and execution.
The role is especially important as BISD advances the superintendent's vision
and works to create a more coherent system in which schools are known,
supported, challenged, and prepared to deliver strong results. This position is
not responsible only for troubleshooting campus issues. It is responsible for
strengthening the systems, relationships, and service expectations that ensure
operational support is timely, practical, and aligned to what schools need
most.
Key responsibilities include:
School Support and Operational Coordination
Serve as the primary regional leader for coordinating operational support to
assigned campuses.
Ensure central office functions that directly support schools work cohesively,
responsively, and with clear service expectations.
Partner with campus leaders and district departments throughout the year to
address school needs, readiness issues, and operational barriers.
Help ensure campuses are prepared for strong opening-of-school, daily
operations, testing periods, special events, and other critical milestones.
Principal Support and Barrier Removal
Serve as a thought partner and advocate for principals on non-instructional
issues that affect school performance and leader focus.
Identify and remove operational burdens that limit principals' ability to focus
on instruction, culture, and student outcomes.
Escalate and help resolve persistent service issues affecting campuses,
ensuring follow-through across departments.
Support school leaders in navigating operational processes with clarity,
consistency, and urgency where needed.
Cross-Functional Problem Solving and Service Quality
Work cross-functionally with facilities, maintenance, transportation,
technology, staffing-related teams, and other support departments to improve
school service delivery.
Establish clear expectations with support teams regarding response times,
communication, execution quality, and problem resolution.
Monitor recurring issues across schools and recommend improvements to
systems, processes, and service models.
Ensure school-facing operational support reflects district priorities and does
not create unnecessary confusion, duplication, or burden for campuses.
Compliance, Resources, and Continuous Improvement
Monitor campus operational conditions and support compliance with district
procedures, timelines, and applicable state and local requirements.
Collaborate with district leaders to ensure resources are allocated and
deployed in ways that support campus readiness and school effectiveness.
Monitor campus budgets and resource use in support of school priorities and
principal decision-making.
Use evidence from school visits, leader feedback, service trends, and campus
conditions to strengthen operational systems over time.
Stakeholder Engagement and Regional Leadership
Build strong working relationships with principals, staff, students, families,
and community stakeholders to support effective school operations.
Communicate regularly with school leaders and district teams regarding
support needs, service quality, and regional priorities.
Partner closely with the Executive Director of Instructional Leadership to
ensure campuses experience aligned support rather than competing demands
or disconnected messages.
