The Executive Director, Philanthropy (EDP) is responsible for developing and executing the comprehensive fundraising strategy for Newton-Wellesley Hospital to achieve annual and long-term philanthropic goals.

Reporting jointly to the Vice President of Development, System Philanthropy for Mass General Brigham and the President and Chief Operating Officer of Newton-Wellesley Hospital, this leader oversees all fundraising programs, including annual giving, major gifts, gift planning, corporate and foundation relations, special events, donor stewardship, and campaign initiatives.

The Executive Director leads and develops a high-performing fundraising team, cultivates strategic partnerships with hospital leadership, physicians, volunteers, donors, and community stakeholders, and advances a strong culture of philanthropy throughout the organization. The EDP also partners closely with the Managing Director of Salem Hospital to provide strategic oversight and coordination of shared services staff, ensuring alignment, collaboration, and operational excellence across both hospital development teams.

This role is accountable for setting fundraising strategy, driving innovation and growth, managing budgets and operational performance, leveraging data and metrics to inform decision-making, and ensuring compliance with all Mass General Brigham Development Office and institutional policies related to fundraising, prospect management, gift administration, and performance management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Develops and implements a comprehensive philanthropic strategy aligned with Newton-Wellesley Hospital''s strategic priorities and Mass General Brigham Development goals.
• Achieves annual fundraising goals across major gifts, annual giving, grateful patient giving, planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, and special initiatives.
• Partners with hospital leadership and Mass General Brigham Development to identify, prioritize, and advance philanthropic opportunities that support clinical care, research, education, capital projects, and strategic growth.
• Builds and maintains strong partnerships with the Hospital President, senior leadership team, physician leaders, and volunteer leadership to advance a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.
• Provides strategic leadership and support to the Newton-Wellesley Hospital Board and its committees, engaging members in fundraising, stewardship, and ambassador activities.
• Develops annual operating plans, fundraising forecasts, and budgets while ensuring responsible stewardship of philanthropic resources and adherence to organizational goals and industry best practices.
• Oversees all fundraising operations, administrative functions, financial reporting, donor stewardship, prospect management, and performance metrics for Newton-Wellesley Hospital philanthropy.
• Establishes short- and long-term fundraising priorities and implements strategies across major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, grateful patient fundraising, corporate and foundation partnerships, special events, donor recognition, and campaign initiatives.
• Collaborates with finance, marketing and communications, patient experience, clinical departments, and other hospital and Mass General Brigham teams to integrate philanthropy into organizational priorities.
• Serves as the hospital''s lead frontline fundraiser, managing a portfolio of principal and major gift prospects while developing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies that result in transformational philanthropic investments.
• Personally solicits and closes significant gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations in partnership with hospital and system leadership.
• Recruits, develops, and supports volunteer leaders and campaign volunteers, providing guidance on fundraising strategy, donor engagement, and philanthropic best practices.
• Represents Newton-Wellesley Hospital within the community, serving as the primary philanthropic ambassador to donors, community organizations, corporations, foundations, and civic leaders.
• Leads efforts to strengthen and expand the hospital''s grateful patient program through close collaboration with physicians, nurses, and clinical staff.
• Promotes strong physician and employee engagement in philanthropy, fostering participation in employee giving, grateful patient referrals, and other philanthropic initiatives.
• Ensures fundraising programs are data-informed, donor-centered, and aligned with evolving philanthropic best practices while continuously evaluating performance and identifying opportunities for growth. Take on other office-wide duties at the request of Development leadership.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required or Master's Degree Related Field of Study preferred.

Experience in fundraising, development, or a related field 10+ years required and Experience in a management or leadership role 5-7 years required and Experience within a healthcare environment 3-5 years preferred.

• Proven ability to develop and execute successful fundraising strategies and campaigns.
• Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills to engage donors, leadership, and stakeholders.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to articulate the hospital's mission and priorities effectively.
• Ability to analyze data and fundraising metrics to inform decision-making and strategy development.
• Leadership and team management skills to inspire and support a high-performing development team.
• Knowledge of fundraising best practices, donor stewardship principles, and ethical fundraising standards.

The target salary for this position is $220,000 - $250,000/Annual. Final offers will be based on the candidate's experience and internal equity.
