POSITION SUMMARY

The Executive Director serves as the chief executive of the organization and is responsible for advancing its mission, strategic direction, and overall organizational health.

The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership while ensuring operational excellence, financial sustainability, staff support and development, and strong community partnerships.

This position requires a visible, relationship-centered leader who is committed to strengthening organizational culture while guiding long-term growth and sustainability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Executive Director supervises executive-level directors while reporting to the Board of Directors. The Executive Director is responsible for:

Organizational Leadership

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the effective administration and day-to-day operations of the organization.
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of culturally responsive programs, services, and special projects.
  • Foster a culture of transparency, trust, and accountability.
  • Provide visible and accessible leadership throughout the organization.
  • Partner with the Board of Directors on strategic priorities and governance, fiscal management, and changes to organizational management.

Staff Leadership & Supervision

  • Directly supervise and support Program Directors and key leadership staff.
  • Strengthen teams through coaching, mentorship, and relationship-building.
  • Support staff growth and leadership development opportunities.
  • Foster a collaborative, healthy, and culturally responsive work environment.
  • Create conditions where staff feel valued, supported, and connected to the mission.

Finance Leadership & Sustainability

  • Provide strategic leadership and stewardship of El Jardin's financial health and long-term sustainability.
  • Develop and oversee the annual organizational budget in partnership with leadership staff and the Board of Directors.
  • Provide regular financial reporting and analysis to the Board to support informed decision-making.
  • Monitor organizational financial performance, including cash flow, expenditures, and resource utilization.
  • Ensure strong fiscal management practices and compliance with organizational policies and funding requirements.
  • Lead fundraising and resource development efforts to support the mission and long-term sustainability of the organization.
  • Cultivate and strengthen relationships with funders, donors, and community partners.
  • Support grant development efforts and identify opportunities to diversify revenue and funding sources.
  • Ensure organizational resources are used effectively and aligned with strategic priorities.

Community Engagement & External Leadership

  • Serve as a visible and trusted ambassador for the organization, building authentic relationships with community members, partners, funders, and stakeholders.
  • Advocate for culturally responsive services and the needs of Latino communities, individuals in recovery, and the populations served by the organization.
  • Strengthen partnerships and collaborative efforts that expand access, resources, and opportunities for the community.
  • Represent the organization in public, professional, and community spaces to advance mission, visibility, and long-term impact.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive * leadership experience, including supervision and management responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams, building collaborative relationships, and supporting organizational growth.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience managing organizational budgets, operations, and strategic initiatives.
  • Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and equity-centered leadership practices.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with recovery-oriented approaches, trauma-informed care, and the value of peer support services.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with staff, community partners, funders, and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google productivity applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong preference for candidates bilingual/bicultural in English and Spanish
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; equivalent lived and professional experience considered.
  • 5+ years of Executive-level leadership experience in nonprofit, behavioral health, social services, or related fields.
  • Experience working within behavioral health, substance use disorder (SUD), recovery, and/or peer support environments.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and respect for the lived experiences of individuals in recovery and the communities served.
  • Working knowledge of 42 CFR Part 2, HIPAA regulations, and Oregon Administrative Rules related to substance use disorder and recovery services (FHA knowledge).
  • Knowledge of funding, compliance, and regulatory environments impacting nonprofit and recovery-oriented services.

  • Successful completion of required background checks and other employment requirements consistent with organizational policies.
  • Pre-employment and reasonable-suspicion drug testing may be required in accordance with organizational policies.
