Position Overview
The Executive Vice President, Operations & Administration is a senior member of the executive leadership team responsible for strengthening the Association's operational effectiveness through financial leadership, governance, administration, and cross-functional execution.  The EVP reports to the President & COO and serves as operational partner, ensuring priorities move from planning to execution while coordinating work across departments and driving accountability for results.

The role combines executive leadership with hands-on responsibility for financial planning, governance, operational improvement, compliance, and enterprise initiatives. Success requires someone who is equally comfortable developing strategy, analyzing complex issues, and personally driving execution across the Association.

The position is designed to integrate and strengthen existing functions and work collaboratively with current leadership to improve effectiveness rather than add organizational layers.

Key Responsibilities

Executive Leadership
  • Partner closely with the President & COO on organizational, operational, and administrative matters.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on strategic, financial, and operational matters.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives and special projects that advance the Association’s priorities.
  • Represent the President & COO in meetings, operational reviews, and other initiatives, as appropriate.
  • Prepare analyses and recommendations that support executive decision-making.
Finance, Planning & Performance
  • Develop financial models and scenario analyses to support decision making.
  • Monitor the Association’s performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Oversee membership revenue forecasting, dues modeling, and related financial analysis.
  • Ensure accurate accounting and reporting for membership billing, dues recognition, and related financial activities.
  • Partner with the Head of Accounting to maintain strong financial reporting, internal controls, audit readiness, and nonprofit accounting compliance.
  • Prepare materials and analyses for the Board of Directors and Finance & Operations Committee.
Operations & Association Effectiveness
  • Partner with departmental leaders to align operations with strategic and financial objectives.
  • Establish performance metrics, operational dashboards, and decision frameworks that improve the Association’s performance.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and enhance cross-functional collaboration.
  • Support leadership teams in addressing operational challenges and enhancing the Association’s performance.
Governance, Compliance & Risk
  • Lead governance, compliance and risk management activities.
  • Partner with leadership and external advisors to ensure compliance with applicable laws and nonprofit requirements.
  • Recommend and implement enhancements to governance policies, internal controls, and risk management practices.
  • Manage the Association’s insurance program and relationships with brokers and carriers.
Association (People) Administration
  • Partner with HR leadership to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Support workforce planning, compensation, and benefits strategies from an operational and financial perspective.
  • Evaluate the Association and employment-related risks and recommend process improvements that strengthen administrative effectiveness.
Intellectual Property Management
  • Manage the Association’s trademark portfolio and related intellectual property assets.
  • Coordinate with legal counsel on filings, renewals, and protection activities.
  • Ensure intellectual property practices support the Association’s business objectives and contractual obligations.
Qualifications

  • MBA, CPA, or JD strongly preferred
  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in finance, operations, or corporate administration
  • Demonstrated success improving financial controls, operational processes, governance, and Association effectiveness.
  • Experience operating in trade associations, membership Associations, professional societies, or nonprofit environments, or advising such Associations is preferred
  • Familiarity with dues-based revenue models and nonprofit accounting practices strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of employment law fundamentals and HR compliance
  • Exceptional leadership, analytical, and communication skills
  • Proven ability to balance executive leadership with a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves approach to execution.
