Job Description

The Skirball Cultural Center seeks an experienced, highly organized museum professional to serve as Exhibitions Manager. Reporting to the Deputy Director, this role coordinates all aspects of temporary and traveling exhibitions. The Exhibitions Manager manages complex projects, drafts and reviews contracts, develops and oversees exhibition schedules and budgets, and tracks deliverables. This individual works closely with curators, registrars, preparators, and external partners such as exhibition designers and fabricators. They also collaborate with Operations, Communications, Education, and Public Programs teams. The Exhibitions Manager oversees the traveling exhibitions process, serves as the primary liaison for marketing and project management, and acts as a courier to ensure proper care and handling of objects during installations. This position requires some travel.

Salary: $72,384

Essential Duties

  • Under the direction of the Deputy Director, responsible for the overall project management of temporary and traveling exhibitions.
  • Negotiates and manages exhibition-related contractual arrangements with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Develops and tracks exhibition budgets.
  • Collaborates with curators, registrars, preparators, designers, and fabricators; Skirball departments such as Public Programs, Education, Visitor Experience, and Advancement; and partner institutions.
  • Creates and maintains exhibition schedules and records throughout each exhibition cycle.
  • Markets and manages a robust traveling exhibitions program and serves as the primary liaison and courier, overseeing installation to ensure proper care and handling of all objects.
  • Creates manuals outlining installation guidelines and procedures for traveling exhibitions.
  • Assists the Deputy Director with the management of the forward exhibition schedule.

Qualifications, Experience, and Attributes

  • Minimum 5 years of exhibition management experience in a museum setting.
  • Working knowledge of museum best practices and procedures
  • Undergraduate degree or higher in museum studies, arts administration, or a related field and/or equivalent experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and a proven capacity to build collaborative relationships across the institution
  • Detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Proficiency in project management software platforms
  • A keen appreciation for and understanding of the Skirball Cultural Center's mission
