Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented experienced Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in assisting ophthalmologists with patient care and ensuring a smooth workflow within the practice. This position requires strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to providing excellent patient service in a clinical environment.
Duties
Informing patients of the purpose of all tests and procedures performed and how they will be affected during the tests
Obtaining patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications
Performing accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks to include: Performing OCTs, IOL Master, Topography/Topographer, Fundus photos on an optos camera, HFA testing, Pachymetry
Performing refractions
Goldmann tonometry/Icare
Neutralizing glasses prescription
Scribing/accurately documentation exam
Submitting refills of medications
Submitting prior authorizations for medications
Assisting in minor surgeries if needed by MD
Sterilizing instruments
Cleaning, stocking, opening/closing of exam and work up rooms
Maintaining clean work area and patient areas
Helping and answering questions of other staff members
Disposing of biohazard waste and sharps
Using paper and electronic medical records systems
Determining which patient should be next to be taken from the waiting room and to have testing initiated. Escort all patients from the waiting room for the data collection. Following testing, advise the patient as to who will see them next and make them comfortable during the wait.
Maintaining a smooth flow of patients to the physician, altering the test sequence as required
Communicating with coworkers to facilitate proper patient flow
Checking calibration of equipment, performing quality checks, and make adjustments or calls for service as necessary
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Willingness to learn all aspects of the above job description, including Testing equipment
Basic skills and understanding of: Anatomy, Medical terminology specific to ophthalmology (QD, BID, OD, OS, OU, Etc), OCT, HVF, Optos, AR, reading glasses, Knowledge of EMR systems
Willingness to travel to all office locations (Albany, Clifton Park and Troy)
