Schedule: Minimum of 3 days/week, 2:15-6:00 PM daily, Preference for 5 days/week, 2:15-6:00 PM. Additional hours on district elementary early release days, 12:00-6:00 PM.
Pay Rate: $27.24 per hour - $35.50 per hour based on relevant, job-alike experience
Incentive Program: This position is eligible for up to $1,000.00 in bonus and/or stipend pay if specific criteria are met.
General Description:
Watertown Community Education is a self-sustaining program of the Watertown Public Schools that provides quality enrichment programs and courses for children, adults, and families.
Watertown Community Education is currently hiring for various open positions supporting the Extended Day Programs at the Cunniff, Hosmer, and Lowell schools. The Extended Day Program provides a safe, nurturing environment after school for children in PreK through Grade 5 from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM daily. Activities are provided that challenge each child to explore, discover, create, and grow.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure a smooth transition for students from the school day to the extended day program
- Assist students, if/as needed, with personal care needs which may include but are not limited to feeding, toileting, diapering, personal safety, and/or management of personal items
- Implement student and program accommodations as appropriate
- Follow and support student behavior support plans, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and/or 504 Plans as provided by the District and/or Extended Day Site Coordinator, and/or Assistant Director or Director of Community Education as appropriate/applicable
- Run behavior intervention programs and student support programs (such as positive reinforcement, motor breaks, designated breaks, token board systems, etc.)
- Facilitate social opportunities and potential social groups (including games, projects, and time during outdoor/indoor play) with peers
- Assist students in using assistive technology and PECS functional communication systems as appropriate/applicable
- Accompany and support students on field trips
- May be required to support at other Extended Day Program site locations based on program needs, student needs, staffing, and/or enrollment.
- If needed, maintain student data as directed by school service providers
- Other duties as assigned by the Extended Day Program Extended Day Site Coordinator, and/or Assistant Director or Director of Community Education
- The position may require extra hours for planning and/or participating in family and program events.
Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, or coursework towards a degree is preferred
- At least one year of experience working with school-age children required
- At least one year of special education experience preferred
Physical Demands:
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Professional Commitment
The Extended Day Student Support Aide is required to work a minimum of 2 days per week. 3-5 days per week is preferred.
In addition to his/her regularly scheduled hours the Extended Day Student Support Aide may be asked to attend the following periodic meetings:
- Monthly meetings with the Extended Day Site Coordinator, and/or Community Education Assistant Director and/or Director.
- Attend annual mandatory program orientation and training days.

- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Annual Watertown Public Schools Required Trainings
- Monthly Community Education Meetings
