Job Description:

JOB PURPOSE:

The primary role of this position is building,repairing, and modifications of one-of-a-kind equipment and parts as opposed to repeatedly making the same part. The fabricator’s responsibilities include operating metal machining tools such as press brake, shear, grinders, iron worker, drills, band saw, rolls, and plasma tables. Other optional equipment skills (lathe, mill). This position would be based in Alphia Ogden, Utah,headquarters and support operations at 7 plants across the US. 10% - 20% of travel to other plants as needed.

NEEDED SKILLS: 

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Form and fabricate parts and components working from graphic, written,or verbal directions.

  • Use machine tools, electric equipment,and instruments working with various metals and other materials within prescribed tolerances.

  • Proficient at operating press brake, shear, grinders, iron worker, drills, band saw, rolls, plasma table,and other machines. 

  • Very proficient at all weldingprocesses (MIG,TIG, arc)

  • Proficient at layout andassembly

  • Must be able to convertdrawings, sketches, and ideas into a finished product 

  • Must be able to understand and follow work instructions in English

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (To perform this job successfully,anindividual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

  • Experience:2yearsofformal fabrication vocational training or 5+ years of applicable experience directly related to metal fabrication (sheet metal through ½ inch)

TechnicalDesirables: 

  • Experience making /repairing parts and equipment used in food manufacturing – packaging equipment (baggers, scales,palletizers, conveyors) – processing equipment (extruders, driers, grinders, scales, pneumatic conveying, pumps) 

  • Experience rebuilding mechanical components - pumps, gear boxes, shafts, conveyors

  • Experience with layout and installation of equipment or structure in an industrialenvironment

  • Experience with AutoCAD,SolidWorks, or other CAD software (beneficial)

Communication: 

  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely (verbally andin writing)

  • Ability to explain, teach, and coach processes, procedures, and concepts.

  • Ability to provide constructive and timely feedback.

  • Ability to detect problems and opportunities early.

  • Ability to identify and gather relevant information to identify underlying issues. 

  • Ability to solve problems based oninformationand logical assumptions, considering resources, constraints, and organizational value.

The employee must exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally,and/orup to 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently,and/or10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Support aschedule-driven by24 hours per day environment with a customer service orientation to plant operations

  • Pre-employment background, drug, and skills testing required

  • Food Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices, includingthe use ofappropriate safety equipment

  • The position may require prolonged periods of time of sitting, standing, climbing stairs, climbing ladders,and walking plant floors that could exceed one mile of travel per day

  • The employee may be frequently exposed to allergens and/or airborne particles in the production area.Employees are exposed to temperatures ranging from 50 to 115 degrees, depending on the season and workstation, and may be working near moving mechanical parts.Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions may occur.

  • The noise level in the work environment may be loud while production equipment is running.

  • Personal Protection Equipment (including boots, gloves, safety glasses, and/or face shields) is required during various processes in the production area.Earplugsand bump caps are always required in the production area.
