Working Hours and/or Working Conditions

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Bending carrying and working in various weather and environmental conditions (indoor and outdoor), use of ladders and heavy equipment is required. Generally regular hours. Overtime is mandatory for call-ins due to snow removal, storm damage, flooding and other emergencies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to do heavy lifting. Mechanical aptitude helpful. Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license.

Supervision

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Supervision received from Department Administrators and/or assigned supervisors. SUPERVISION GIVEN: May direct part-time employees or other full-time employees as assigned.

Job Function

Responsible for the various repair, maintenance and operational duties in and around all college owned or operated property. May be assigned to work at any / all campuses or building locations and other departments within Facilities and Operations

Job Responsibilities

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cleans, moves, assembles, and installs furniture and equipment.
  • Uses and maintains machines and tools as required.
  • Assist in the set-up and tear-down of all shows and events.
  • Cleans areas as assigned and after related jobs are completed.
  • Assists skilled tradesmen in performance of their tasks (Paint, remodel, refurbish building spaces as directed).
  • Orders supplies and materials as needed to carry out assigned duties.
  • Completes and initiates internal work orders as required.
  • Performs supplemental cleaning/disinfecting of all college areas as assigned.
  • Ability to be cross functional in Plant Operations & Central Services departments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

When assigned to Plant Operations:

  • Performs preventative maintenance to a variety of college owned equipment (e.g. HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry) including, adjusting, lubricating, replacing filters and minor components.
  • Perform repairs to building facilities and equipment that require use of common power and hand tools.
  • Replace interior and exterior lighting lamps as needed.
  • Oversees assigned buildings for daily trash removal, restocking/cleaning of toilet rooms, floor care, classroom & office general cleaning, cleaning/disinfecting of common areas, (handrails, water fountains, push/pull devices, elevator buttons etc.)
  • Fills out building reports and information as assigned.
  • Performs exterior landscaping duties as assigned, including cutting lawns, trimming trees and hedges, and removes snow.
  • Operates a variety of small powered equipment, including Chainsaws, String Trimmers, Edger's, Blowers etc.
  • Operates College vehicles and equipment including Frontend loaders, Broom Tractors, Backhoes, Riding Lawnmowers, Plow trucks, etc.

When assigned to Central Services:

  • Assists in the loading and unloading of common carrier shipping trucks.
  • Delivers and sets-up furniture, machinery and equipment to all parts of the College.
  • Operates material handling equipment including Fork-Lift Truck, Pallett Jacks, loading dock equipment etc. as required.
  • Functions as internal delivery service, Pick-up and deliver all college goods as required.
  • Uses internal delivery tracking system and ensures proper receipt of delivered goods.
  • Assists with Mailroom operations as assigned.
  • Operates College vehicles and equipment as required.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent. Must possess a valid Michigan Chauffeur's license, or the completion of licensing within the hire probationary period.
