CITY OF ELKHART – JOB DESCRIPTION DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation POSITION : Facility Aide DIVISION: Recreation STATUS: Part-time CATEGORY: Hourly FLSA: Non-Exempt REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent DATE: August 2026 JOB SUMMARY The Parks and Recreation Facility Aide assists with the daily operational and administrative needs of Parks and Recreation facilities. This position provides support with facility staffing and coverage, cash handling, inventory, staff training, field trip coordination, concession operations, and special facility activities. The Facility Aide works closely with facility staff and supervisors to help ensure facilities are properly staffed, supplied, organized, and prepared for daily operations and special events. Work schedules vary based on facility needs and may include days, evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY • Assist with preparing and maintaining facility personnel schedules and identifying staffing or coverage needs. • Provide site coverage at Parks and Recreation facilities as assigned. • Assist with training and onboarding new facility staff on site procedures, expectations, customer service, cash handling, and daily operations. • Collect, count, document, and secure facility revenue in accordance with City cash-handling procedures. • Coordinate facility field trips, including scheduling, facility communication, attendance information, transportation details, and other logistical needs. • Assist with the operation, setup, inventory, stocking, and coordination of the Parks and Recreation concession trailer. • Serve as a liaison for facility theme nights and special activities by communicating information, coordinating supplies, and assisting facility staff with implementation. • Maintain regular communication with the Program and Recreation Coordinator, facility managers, and other designated supervisors regarding staffing, inventory, facility needs, and operational concerns. • Assist with facility setup, cleanup, organization, and general operational needs. • Provide customer service and respond appropriately to questions from participants, parents/guardians, visitors, and staff. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Assist with special events, programs, and department-wide activities as needed. • Travel between Parks and Recreation facilities as assigned to provide staffing, supplies, inventory, or operational support. • Maintain a flexible schedule based on facility needs, including evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays. • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the overall operation of Parks and Recreation facilities. • Assist with maintaining accurate inventory lists for assigned facilities, including concessions, operational supplies, and other facility materials. • Assist with the distribution and delivery of inventory and supplies to Parks and Recreation facilities. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. • Experience in recreation, customer service, facility operations, cash handling, inventory, scheduling, or a related setting is desirable. • Experience working with seasonal or part-time employees is desirable. • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. • Ability to learn City policies, facility procedures, cash-handling requirements, and departmental operations.
