Job Responsibilities
To provide quality, specialized instruction and family training t o children (ages birth - 21 years) who are deaf and hard of hearing; and if necessary, provide services in local school districts, agencies and private organizations in accordance with Parts C and B of IDEA.
Provides special instruction in the child and families natural environment. Designs learning environments and activities that promote the infant's or toddler's acquisition of skills in a variety of developmental areas including cognitive processes and social interaction. Utilizes and updates prescribed lesson plans that reflect the unique needs of the child with sensory disabilities. Works with families in the natural environment and local school districts in the school based setting to schedule lesson plans and provide itinerant instruction in communication and language development (oral, sign and tactile), literacy, use of assistive technology, and other unique needs of students who are deaf, hard of hearing, and multi disabled. Assess and assists in the development of appropriate individualized family service plans (IFSPs) and individualized education plans (IEPs) based on assessments.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
SC Teachers Licensure in the area of Special Education Deafness and Hearing Impairment and 2 years experience working with students who are deaf and hard of hearing. This position may require communication modalities dependent on employment placement.
