What you’ll be doing...

As a Principal Engineer, you will be tasked with developing resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity. Additionally, you will also be conducting analysis of situations or data requiring an in-depth evaluation of variable factors and exercising judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

• Providing mentoring to other team members on networking, application design, engineering and automation while acting as the final escalation point to support production service issues in concert with application, operational, and triage teams.
• Leading performance meetings with the agency, planning and maintenance engineering and creating detailed project plans. 
• Providing input on status calls with teams across several organizations.
• Finishing projects independently and meeting tight timelines without impacting critical services.
• Developing excellent working relationships with and working as a partner with other departments and vendors with the purpose developing best practices for engineering and operations.
• The Network Engineer provides day-to-day sustaining engineering support for the customer enterprise network.
• Designs and implements computer and information networks, such as local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), intranets, extranets, and other data communications networks including Software Defined Networks (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV).
• Performs network modeling, analysis, and planning. Also designs network and computer security measures. Researches and recommends network and data communications hardware and software.
• Supports the installation of new services and features, changes to existing services and features in accordance with prescribed change management procedures, implementation of approved upgrades, and scheduled maintenance.
• Support activities include Voice over IP (VoIP), Session Initiated Protocol (SIP) based services as well as Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) voice integration.
• Validate network and application operations following network changes.
• Execute design-impacting changes to the network, including configuration review & approval in accordance with approved design and engineering documentation.
• Execute fallback / contingency plans for network restoration and support disaster recovery drills.
• Monitor success indicators for design-impacting changes
• Update network design documentation, post implementation
• Works at an enterprise level and in cross-functional teams to assist with the development of strategic and enterprise plans.

What we’re looking for...

You’re a technical expert with experience managing multiple medium to large projects at once. Cross-functional work is ideal for you, given your collaborative nature and ability to work with a variety of stakeholders across the organization. You have experience and knowledge in scripting and automation  and have a knack for using these abilities to increase efficiency within a production environment. You will have a strong, customer centric voice in assisting with as well as implementing our strategic roadmap. 

You’ll need to have:

• Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
• Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
• Ability to ascertain a GSA Public Trust certificate and any other applicable security clearances required by the agency.
• Cisco Network Certifications or equivalent.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

• Degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or Technology related field.
• Ability to lead and drive projects to completion and balance multiple work assignments simultaneously.
• Critical thinking, problem solving abilities, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to lead technical discussions with a group of individuals in the industry with varying technical positions.
• Ability to work well both independently and in diverse teams.
• Experience working with the Federal government.

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes working from home and a minimum of three days per week in the office, which will be set by your manager. Employees are responsible for maintaining compliance with hybrid work policies.

The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.The annual salary range for the location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $118,000.00 - $205,000.00.The annual salary range for the Maryland location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $118,000.00 - $205,000.00.
