Description:

The Peer Mentor will serve as a supportive guide, role model, and resource for students participating in the L.E.G.A.C.I. Student Success Program at the University of Houston-Downtown. By building meaningful connections and providing assistance, the Peer Mentor plays a crucial role in fostering academic success, personal growth, and engagement within the campus community.

  1. Mentorship and Support:
  • Build positive, professional relationships with assigned mentees to foster a

supportive environment.

  • Provide guidance on navigating campus resources, academic planning, and personal

development.

  • Actively listen to mentees' concerns and connect them to appropriate resources when

needed.

  1. Program Engagement:
  • Attend and actively participate in all L.E.G.A.C.I. workshops, events, and activities.
  • Help mentees stay informed about program events, deadlines, and opportunities.
  • Serve as a bridge between program participants and staff, providing feedback and

suggestions to enhance the program.

  1. Academic Support:
  • Encourage and motivate mentees to achieve their academic goals.
  • Share effective study habits, time management techniques, and tips for balancing

responsibilities.

  • Facilitate or participate in study groups or academic support sessions as needed.
  1. Administrative and Logistical Support:
  • Maintain accurate records of mentee interactions and progress.
  • Assist with program initiatives, such as recruitment, marketing, and event planning.
  • Help prepare materials and resources for workshops and events.
  1. Leadership and Development:
  • Serve as a role model by demonstrating professionalism, responsibility, and

leadership.

  • Participate in regular training and professional development opportunities to

enhance mentoring skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and a passion for helping others succeed.

Qualifications:

  • Must be eligible for Federal Work-Study
  • Must be an undergraduate student at the University of Houston-Downtown in good academic standing.
  • Previous participation in the L.E.G.A.C.I. Student Success Program or similar

is preferred.
