Medical Equipment Technician
Location: Santa Clara Valley Health System
(SCVMC, OConnor Hospital, San José Regional Medical Center)
Position Overview
We are seeking a self-motivated Medical Equipment Technician to work independently across hospitals within the Santa Clara Valley Health System. This role focuses on basic preventive maintenance (PM) on medical devices that are actively in use within patient rooms, including while patients remain present.
Primary responsibilities include battery replacements, software updates, and accurate electronic documentation of all completed work.
This is a short-term assignment (approximately 4 weeks) with the potential for ongoing work as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Perform basic preventive maintenance (PM) on a variety of medical devices
- Replace device batteries and update device software in patient rooms
- Work independently across three hospital campuses
- Enter and track work activity in live computer systems until completion
- Electronically document all work daily using mobile devices
- Communicate professionally with hospital staff and strictly follow hospital protocols
- Adhere to patient safety, infection control, and hospital compliance standards
Minimum Requirements- 1 year of technical experience OR AA degree OR Biomedical Engineering background
- Credentialed to access hospital environments
(Vendormate or equivalent required) - Comfortable working in active patient-care environments
- Strong computer skills with experience entering and tracking data in live systems
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with hospital staff
- Proficient with basic hand tools
(screwdrivers, wrenches, SD cards, etc.) - Ability to work independently and manage daily workload
- Reliable transportation for travel between hospital locations
Training- Training will be conducted remotely via Zoom or Microsoft Teams
- Training provided by the Technical Service Team in Irvine, CA
Assignment Details- Start Date: Targeting May
- Length: Approx. 4 weeks (with potential follow-on work)
- Schedule: Daytime hours (exact schedule coordinated with hospitals)
- Pay Rate:$30$40 per hour (DOE)
- Parking: Parking expenses reimbursed
