Role Overview

As a Field Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting utility engineering and infrastructure projects by collecting, documenting, and validating critical field data used for system design, asset management, and joint use evaluations. Working independently and alongside project teams, you will perform field surveys, inspections, and assessments of electric distribution and telecommunications facilities while ensuring accuracy, safety, and quality throughout the data collection process.

This position is ideal for a self-motivated individual who enjoys working outdoors, traveling to various project locations, and contributing directly to projects that strengthen and modernize critical utility infrastructure.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Collect field data on overhead electric distribution systems, poles, and utility assets using GPS survey equipment, measurement tools, and company-approved software.
  • Perform post-construction inspections of utility facilities to verify compliance with approved designs, construction standards, and project specifications.
  • Evaluate utility-owned poles and structures to support joint use and telecommunications attachment programs.
  • Document field conditions, measurements, equipment inventories, and project observations through detailed notes, photographs, reports, and electronic data collection methods.
  • Coordinate with utility customers, telecommunications providers, contractors, and other stakeholders during field investigations and site visits.
  • Provide regular project status updates and reporting to project managers and engineering teams.
  • Safely operate company vehicles and adhere to all company, client, and regulatory safety requirements while working in the field.

What You Will Bring

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Basic understanding of overhead electric distribution systems, utility equipment, and telecommunications attachments.
  • Strong technology skills with the ability to utilize GPS equipment, tablets, mobile applications, and cloud-based systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to accurately collect, organize, and communicate field data and observations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication with remote project teams.
  • Ability to read maps, navigate using GPS and mapping applications, and travel efficiently to project locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a utility field technician, lineworker, utility locator, survey technician, or related field services role.
  • Experience collecting data on electric distribution and telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with utility joint use programs, pole attachment processes, or distribution engineering projects.
  • Experience utilizing GIS, GPS survey equipment, mobile data collection applications, or utility asset management systems.

Work Environment & Preferences

  • Work Model: Field-based
  • Preferred Schedule: Full-time
  • Travel Requirements: Frequent regional travel required. Overnight travel may be necessary based on project assignments and geographic territory.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain. Regular standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching, and navigating uneven ground are required. Ability to safely drive for extended periods and perform fieldwork throughout the workday.
