The Finance Systems & Business Intelligence (FSBI) team partners with Finance, Accounting, and the broader business to deliver the systems, data, and processes that power financial planning, reporting, and decision-making across Morningstar. 

The team is responsible for the strategy, governance, and continuous improvement of the Finance technology ecosystem, including enterprise planning applications, financial reporting platforms, analytics, and data solutions. By combining deep finance expertise with technology and process excellence, FSBI helps drive operational efficiency, improve data quality, and support Morningstar's broader finance transformation efforts. 

The Opportunity:

Morningstar is seeking an FP&A Systems Manager to own the FP&A side of our enterprise planning ecosystem, including Oracle PBCS, PCMCS, Narrative Reporting, and Adaptive Planning. This role sits at the intersection of FP&A and Finance Technology: you will own planning process requirements, governance, and roadmap for the platforms that run budgeting, forecasting, workforce planning, and standardized management reporting — partnering closely with our technical teams on hands-on configuration, and with FP&A & People & Culture stakeholders to translate planning requirements into system solutions. 

The ideal candidate combines hands-on FP&A process ownership —direct experience running a budgeting, forecasting, or workforce/compensation planning cycle — with hands-on technical fluency in an enterprise planning platform: demonstrated understanding of metadata, forms, and data flows, while partnering with the technical team on system operations and enhancement work. This is not a pure infrastructure/systems administration position, nor is it a pure FP&A analyst role; it requires genuine fluency and hands-on capability in both the finance process and the underlying planning applications. 

This position reports to the Director of Finance Business Intelligence and is based in our Chicago office. 

Responsibilities: 

• Own end-to-end operational support for budgeting, forecasting, workforce planning, compensation planning, allocations, and management reporting cycles, from calendar and template design through data load, validation, and issue resolution. 

• Support FP&A in building and maintaining ad hoc reports, dashboards, and data extracts from FP&A Systems in response to FP&A and business partner requests. 

• Serve as first point of contact for FP&A's day-to-day use of the planning platforms such as triaging user questions, resolving issues and escalating platform-level or infrastructure issues to the technical team. 

• Lead discovery, requirements gathering, and solution design for planning system enhancements and integrations, partnering with technical team and vendors on build and implementation. 

• Drive platform governance: release management, testing coordination, deployment readiness, change management, and user adoption. 

• Act as the bridge between FP&A and Technology being fluent enough in both the finance process and the platform's technical constraints to translate business requirements into system solutions without a middle layer of translation. 

• Own production support from the FP&A side: triage incidents, partner with the technical team on root-cause analysis, and drive service improvements. 

• Establish and maintain system governance standards, security models, controls, and documentation. 

• Coordinate annual planning system readiness across budgeting, forecasting, workforce planning, compensation planning, and organizational change. 

• Build training, enablement, and tools that enable FP&A to self-service on platforms. 

• Partner with Finance, People & Culture, and Corporate Systems to shape the planning systems roadmap, ensuring investments align with business objectives, operational needs, and platform capabilities.  

• Own execution of prioritized roadmap projects end-to-end: scoping, sequencing against the FP&A planning calendar, resourcing (including technical resource and vendor capacity), timeline management, and status reporting to stakeholders.  

• Facilitate recurring roadmap reviews with Finance, People & Culture, and technical leadership to reprioritize as business needs shift, and surface trade-offs transparently when competing requests exceed available capacity.  

• Track delivery against the roadmap and report on progress, risks, and outcomes to FP&A and cross-functional leadership. 

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Business, or related field. 

FP&A process experience (Required):

• 5+ years in FP&A or related finance roles, including hands-on ownership of at least one full cycle of budgeting, forecasting, or workforce/compensation planning — not just consuming outputs from a planning system. 

• Working knowledge of management reporting, allocations, and close-adjacent reporting processes. 

Systems fluency (Required): 

• 3+ years of experience with Oracle EPM (PBCS, PCMCS, Narrative Reporting, or Hyperion Planning) or a comparable enterprise planning platform (Adaptive Planning, Anaplan, OneStream, Pigment) beyond basic end-user use — for example, building reports, working with business rules or metadata, or otherwise operating at an “admin-lite” level — with a solid understanding of what the platform can do and how to scope enhancements against it. 

• Experience building ad hoc reports and analyses directly from a planning platform and supporting end users on its day-to-day use. 

• Experience translating FP&A business requirements into system solutions, partnering with a broader Finance Systems or IT team on platform-level or infrastructure work. 

Additional (Required):

• Experience leading cross-functional projects involving Finance and Technology stakeholders. 

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills. 

• Experience with governance frameworks, SDLC, Agile processes, change management, and Finance transformation initiatives. 

Qualifications (Preferred): 

• Experience with Workday Adaptive Planning or similar planning tool. 

• Direct, end-to-end ownership of a compensation or workforce planning cycle. 

• Experience working with managed service providers, offshore teams, or external application support partners. 

• Experience with Workday, Snowflake, Tableau, or enterprise data platforms.

Total Cash Compensation Range

$121,400.00-186,150.00
