Job Description

Job Description

Build a Business. Build a Life. Earn What You’re Worth.

\n

\n

Becoming a financial advisor at Northwestern Mutual is an opportunity to build your own business, grow a professional network, and help clients achieve meaningful financial goals through long-term planning.

\n

\n

This role is for individuals who want to take ownership of their career and build something that grows over time.

\n

\n

As a Financial Advisor, you will build a client base, develop long-term relationships, and create a practice that generates ongoing income. The work is straightforward, but not easy. It requires consistency, strong relationships, and a willingness to prospect.

\n

\n

We are selective in who we bring on. The people who succeed here are serious about building a high-income career and are willing to put in the work early to create long-term results.

\n

\n

What you will do

\n

At its core, this role is about building relationships and earning trust. You will:

\n

Build your client base through networking, referrals, and consistent outreach

\n
  • \n
  • Develop strong relationships with both personal and professional contacts
  • \n
  • Create and present personalized financial plans
  • \n
  • Help clients protect income, grow wealth, and plan for major life milestones
  • \n
  • Stay connected with clients over time and continue to provide guidance
  • \n
\n

Over time, you will build a book of business that creates recurring income and long-term value

\n

\n

What makes this opportunity different

\n
  • \n
  • You are building your own business within a proven framework
  • \n
  • Your income grows with your effort and results
  • \n
  • You create long-term, recurring revenue from the relationships you build
  • \n
  • You have flexibility to design your schedule and long-term path
  • \n
  • You are backed by a well-established firm with strong training and support
  • \n
\n

You are in business for yourself, but you are not alone.

\n

\n

Who tends to thrive here

\n

We see the most success from people who:

\n
  • \n
  • Already have a strong personal or professional network or can build one quickly
  • \n
  • Are comfortable reaching out, following up, and asking for introductions
  • \n
  • Have a competitive mindset and are motivated by income growth
  • \n
  • Take ownership of their results and operate with consistency
  • \n
  • Want to control their income rather than depend on a salary
  • \n
\n

Many successful advisors come from backgrounds like:

\n
  • \n
  • Sales, including B2B, SaaS, or client-facing roles
  • \n
  • Athletics or other competitive environments
  • \n
  • Leadership roles or entrepreneurial ventures
  • \n
  • Community influencers or highly networked professionals
  • \n
\n

\n

You do not need a financial services background to succeed here. In fact, many of our top advisors started in entirely different industries. We intentionally look for individuals with strong networks, work ethic, and relationship-building skills. If you are willing to learn the technical side and commit to the process, we provide the training and support to help you succeed.

\n

\n

If your background looks different but you are driven, coachable, and willing to prospect consistently, we still encourage you to apply.

\n

\n

What really matters

\n

We care less about your exact resume and more about how you operate

\n

day to day.

\n

The people who succeed here usually:

\n
  • \n
  • Know a lot of people or actively expand their network
  • \n
  • Are comfortable starting conversations and building trust quickly
  • \n
  • Follow through and stay disciplined, even before seeing results
  • \n
  • Are motivated by performance-based income and long-term upside
  • \n
\n

\n

A note on ramp-up

\n

This is a long-term career, not a short-term sales role.

\n

Building a client base takes time and consistency. Many advisors find it helpful to have some financial stability or savings as they grow their practice in the early stages. The payoff comes from building something that compounds over time.

\n

\n

Training and support

\n

You do not need prior financial experience. We will reach you.

\n

You will have access to:

\n
  • \n
  • A structured development program during your first five years
  • \n
  • Licensing support including Life and Health, SIE, Series 6 7, and 63
  • \n
  • Ongoing coaching, mentorship, and a national advisor network
  • \n
  • Industry-leading planning tools and client resources
  • \n
\n

\n

Compensation and benefits

\n

Your income is performance-based and uncapped.

\n
  • \n
  • Average earnings (Years 1 to 3): $70,000 to $130,000
  • \n
  • Top 25 percent (Years 1 to 3): $175,000 to $330,000+
  • \n
  • Over time, advisors who consistently build and maintain strong client relationships often grow their practices into high six-figure or seven-figure income businesses
  • \n
\n

\n

Additional support includes:

\n
  • \n
  • Early-stage income support and bonuses
  • \n
  • Renewal income from ongoing client relationships
  • \n
  • 401(k) and company-funded pension program
  • \n
  • Health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance
  • \n
  • Licensing reimbursement and CFP support
  • \n
  • Flexible schedule
  • \n
\n

\n

Minimum qualifications

\n
  • \n
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • \n
  • High level of personal accountability
  • \n
  • Entrepreneurial mindset
  • \n
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • \n
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
  • \n
\n

\n

\n

For over 165 years, Northwestern Mutual has helped clients build financial security through a comprehensive approach that includes insurance, investments, and long-term planning strategies. You will be backed by a company known for its financial strength, training, and long-term stability

\n

\n

Before you apply

\n

This opportunity is not for everyone

\n
  • \n
  • Ask yourself: Do I have a network I can start with or the drive to build one quickly?
  • \n
  • Am I comfortable reaching out to people and asking for introductions?
  • \n
  • Do I want my income to reflect my effort and performance?
  • \n
\n

\n

If the answer is yes, this could be a strong fit.
