Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Emergency Department Financial Counselor to assist patients with insurance verification, financial screening, payment arrangements, and financial assistance programs.
Responsibilities
- Conduct patient financial screenings and interviews.
- Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, copays, deductibles, and patient responsibility.
- Obtain insurance authorizations for ED admissions, Inpatient, and BHU.
- Assist with Medi-Cal, Charity Care, and financial assistance applications.
- Establish payment plans and cash-rate arrangements.
- Maintain accurate registration and financial records.
- Perform daily audits of ED accounts.
- Explain hospital, state, and federal financial policies to patients and families.
- Support and train Registration staff as needed.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, physicians, and staff.
Qualifications
- 2–3 years of hospital financial counseling experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medi-Cal, HMO, PPO, EPO, Managed Care, and commercial insurance.
- Hospital patient registration experience preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred, but not required.
- Must complete required AVIP/Fire Card and AIDET training.
Schedule: Must be flexible to work varying shifts and overtime as needed.
