Financial Counselor - RCO Financial Clearance

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Minimum Qualifications: One year of related experience.

JOB SUMMARY: To provide the skills necessary to interview patients for demographic, financial, and third-party payor information to determine their ability to pay for services.

MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:

• Gathers all patient demographic data required in the Hospital Information System computer system during patient interview.
• Screens patient for financial responsibility by using the uniform financial screening document.
• Verifies patient information by obtaining copies of proofs of residency, income, and third-party carriers.
• Determines potential reimbursement sources available to the patient and directs them to these sources.
• Determines the proper pay classification of the patient.
• Calculates patients charges for office visit and collects payment.
• Counsels with patients about unpaid bills.
• Researches invalid charge slips and creates appropriate account for billing.
• Creates a patient folder for appropriate paperwork.
• Adheres to internal controls established for department.
• Performs related duties as required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/EQUIPMENT: Standard office environment and equipment.

SALARY RANGE: Actual salary commensurate with experience.

WORK SCHEDULE: On-site, Monday through Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM.
