Firmware / Embedded Systems Engineer - Robotics | Bay Area (on-site) | Up to $300K base + equity
Want your firmware to bring real robots to life, from humanoids to quadrupeds to warehouse systems?
I’m partnering with one of the best-funded robotics AI companies in the world. They’re building a general-purpose AI brain that can run on any robot, and their team includes world-class robotics researchers and engineers from top robotics programmes and hardware companies.
What you’ll do
Write firmware for BLDC motor control (FOC, PWM, current and position control) on microcontrollers and embedded Linux
Design, debug and integrate CAN, RS-485, SPI and UART communication
Build real-time systems on FreeRTOS, RT Linux or VxWorks
Bring up new PCBAs with the hardware team and integrate them into robots
Connect firmware to ROS/DDS so robots communicate seamlessly
What we’re looking for
3 - 10 years of firmware or embedded experience in C/C++ for motor control or robotics
Hands-on BLDC motor control experience, including FOC and PWM (this is essential)
Real-time embedded experience and confidence with low-level protocols
A degree in electrical engineering, robotics or mechatronics
You’re comfortable in a hardware lab and thrive without heavy process
Bonus: robotics startup experience, PCBA bring-up, ROS or DDS
Why join
Real hardware: your firmware runs on physical robots, not just in research
Scale and backing: over $1B in funding means you can prototype aggressively and ship
Direct access: no middle management, and you work directly with the founders
Ability over pedigree: they care about what you’ve built, not where you studied
Competitive equity, visa transfers welcome (H-1B, OPT)
5 days a week on-site in the Bay Area
