Journeyman Machinist
Jagemann's precision tool room is hiring a Journeyman Machinist to operate advanced machining equipment on critical tooling components. You'll work in a temperature-controlled environment using precision measuring equipment to verify dimensional accuracy while managing machining parameters to maintain surface finish specifications.
What You'll Do
Core Machining Operations:
- Set up and operate manual and precision grinding machines to process parts per specifications
- Plan work sequences and determine cutting parameters (feeds, speeds, depths)
- Work to close tolerances using precision measuring instruments
Programming & Setup:
- Write and edit CNC programs
- Calculate dimensional relationships and input data to machine controllers
- Develop custom holding fixtures and soft jaws for non-standard parts
Tool & Equipment Management:
- Select appropriate cutting tools and manage tool inventory
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on CNC equipment
- Sharpen non-insert tools as needed
Material Expertise:
- Machine hardened steels, carbide, and other specialty materials
- Adjust speeds, feeds, and tooling based on material characteristics
Training & Support:
- Mentor CNC operators and apprentices
- Provide troubleshooting guidance and occasional multi-machine oversight
Maintenance & Safety:
- Keep work areas clean and organized
- Follow all EHS procedures and collaborate with vendors on tooling needs
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma plus machining or metalworking training
- Mazak programming certification
- Partial completion of company-specified Machine Tool Operation curriculum
- CAD/CAM and Solutionware training
- 1–3 years of toolroom and CNC machining experience
- Proficiency in CNC setup and operation
- Strong knowledge of material machining characteristics
- Attention to detail and ability to hold close tolerances
- Familiarity with Environmental Health & Safety procedures
Shifts
1st Shift: Monday–Thursday 4×10s or Monday–Friday 5×8s
