Job Summary
Leads Recreation Department patrons in group fitness classes, including aerobics, Zumba, cycling, yoga, Pilates, and strength/conditioning. Oversees and manages a safe environment for group fitness participants. Executes the proper techniques of various fitness skills. Provides a fun and enjoyable atmosphere.
Examples of Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides regular ongoing classes with new routine updates (moves and music).
Prepares own routine within the confines of safe and proper exercise techniques.
Conducts self in a professional manner at all time.
Supports the Parker Recreation Center philosophies, policies, procedures and safety guidelines.
Works effectively with co-workers, participants and the general public.
Attends all training workshops/seminars and meetings established by the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator.
Identifies continuing education opportunities related to the job and coordinates with Fitness and Wellness Coordinator to maintain required certifications and ongoing education credits.
Educates and monitors RPE (Ratings of Perceived Exertion) of class participants on an ongoing basis.
Answers fitness related questions and makes referrals to class participants in the areas of personal training, specialty classes, injuries or additional education.
Begins classes on time and in an organized fashion. Instructors may not cancel a class unless approved by the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator.
Schedules substitute instructors for assigned classes within time frames established by the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator.
Logs class attendance.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES:
Performs duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Current CPR certification or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire. Current certification from AFAA, ACSM, ACE, or another nationally recognized certification association approved by the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator required.
Continuing education and updated certifications are required on an annual basis.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of customer relations techniques.
Successfully demonstrates fitness-teaching skills.
Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public in answering questions and handling difficult situations.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Fitness apparatus appropriate for assigned classes and programs. Audio equipment associated with teaching fitness classes.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, fingers, handle, feel, or operate objects, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is also frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear and smell.
The employee must frequently carry, pull, push or lift 50 pounds and occasionally carry, pull, push or lift more than 100 pounds with assistance.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision acuity and the ability to adjust his or her focus, allowing a broad field of vision.
Communicate clearly and effectively; must understand and be understood.

As a part-time Town of Parker employee, you have limited access to benefits which include: employee assistance program (EAP), one (1) hour of sick time accrued for every thirty (30) hours worked, and employee plus one (1) other member in your household a membership to the Parker Recreation Center and/or Fieldhouse.
