Fitter/Fabricator (Structural Steel)
Pay: $24-28/hr (depending on weld test results)
Shifts:
- 1st – Monday to Thursday (6am to 4:30pm)
- 2nd – Monday to Thursday (5pm to 3:30am)
- OT available on Friday and Saturday (as needed)
Description:
- Cannonball Recruiting is seeking skilled Fitter/Fabricators for a steel fabrication, machining shop in Irving, TX that manufactures large steel products for clients across the United States.
- The Fitter will position, align and fit parts according to specifications; fabricates heavy steel components by reading shop drawings, routers, and bills of material; performing welding operations using a variety of MIG welding equipment; verifies welding results; documents actions; maintains a safe work environment; keeps equipment operating smoothly; accomplishes manufacturing and organization mission.
Qualifications:
- 3 to 5 years in Steel Fabrication working as Fabricator/Fitter
- Ability to read and understand Blueprints
- Fabrication experience working off Blueprints
- Welding knowledge, including MIG, Flux Core, TIG, and Stick welding; including working with thick steel plates
- Ability to work with power tools/hand tools
- Understanding of crane operation
- Ability to read a tape measure and conduct basic math
Job Duties:
- Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools.
- Verify conformance of workpieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
- Tack-weld fitted parts together.
- Lay out and examine metal stock or workpieces to be processed in order to ensure that specifications are met.
- Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
- Locate and mark workpiece bending and cutting lines allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications.
- Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, and/or bolt parts in position for welding or riveting.
- Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences.
- Move parts into position, manually or by using forklifts, hoists and/or cranes.
- Design and construct templates and fixtures, using hand tools.
- Assist in straightening warped or bent parts, using sledges, hand torches, straightening presses, or bulldozers.
- Communicate with supervisors, peers, or subordinates by providing information by telephone, in written form, email, or in
- Prioritizing time by multitasking and shifting back and forth between two or more activities or sources of information
- Capable of lifting at least 50+ pounds
